Barak Valley registers 815 Covid +ve cases on Wednesday, 687 discharged & 1 death reported

There are 3,132 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

Jan 19: The number of coronavirus positive cases are gradually increasing in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Wednesday, the number of fresh cases in the valley increased once again. A total of 815 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley. Further, during the day, 687 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three districts of the valley. At present, there are 3,132 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Tuesday, Barak Valley registered 701 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Wednesday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 533 positive cases   (It was 403 on Tuesday)
  • Karimganj: 208 positive cases (It was 206 on Tuesday)
  • Hailakandi:  74 positive cases (It was 90 on Tuesday)

The number of coronavirus cases in Cachar district is gradually increasing. The District Health Department of Cachar updated the Covid-19 data of Wednesday at 5.50 PM. As per the latest data, the daily Covid count in Cachar crossed the 500-mark on Wednesday. A total of 533 persons were found positive in the district on 19 January. Also, 476 patients were discharged (454 from home & 22 from hospital) during the day. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has reached 1,893 out of which, 1,730 are in home isolation whereas 163 are admitted in various hospitals of the district. On Tuesday, 469 persons were found positive in Cachar.

As per the updated data, a total of 2,791 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 433 persons were found positive, whereas 100 were detected positive out of 402 RT-PCR Tests. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 Jan 2022 reached 3,688 whereas during this phase, 1,783 patients were discharged. This data was provided by the district health department from 12 noon of 18 January to 12 noon of 19 January, 2022.

There has been a gradual rise in the number of daily positive cases in Cachar district. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 18 January to 5 PM on 19 January) witnessed the death of 01 Covid-19 positive patient at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH on Wednesday evening.

The deceased was identified as:

  1. Parimal Das (44) from Labok Bazar in Cachar district tested Covid positive and was admitted at SMCH on 19 January (9.29 AM). The patient, however, breathed his last at 12.05 AM on the same day, that is, on 19 January, 2022. The patient was admitted with suspected poisoning on Wednesday morning and found to be RAT positive.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 19 January, there were 39 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College. Further, 02 patients were put under ventilator support, and 14 in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 12 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 11 were discharged.

On Wednesday, Hailakandi registered 74 (67 RAT & 07 RT-PCR) new COVID-19 cases. The district has altogether has 492 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 701 RAT tests and 40 RT-PCR tests were done. 78 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 8,849 (1st,  2nd & 3rd wave).

As of now, a total of 4,829 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 78 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Tuesday. Till date, 52 persons died due to Covid-19 in Hailakandi district.  A total of 642 persons were vaccinated on Wednesday.

There was a sharp rise in the number of Covid patients in Karimganj district. Karimganj registered 208 fresh COVID cases on Wednesday. The district has currently 747 active COVID cases, while 133 patients were discharged on Wednesday. 1,036 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 154 persons were detected positive in Karimganj on Tuesday.

 On Wednesday, out of 64,699 tests, 8,339 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 6,70,128. The positivity rate in the state is 12.89 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 1,929 positive cases during the day. Further, on Wednesday, 15 died in the state due to COVID-19. The death toll in the state stands at 6,248. The recovery rate is 93.62 percent. Also, 2,723 persons were discharged during the day. There are at present 35,161 active Covid patients in the state.

India registered 2,82,970 Covid positive cases in last 24 hours on Wednesday. The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare on Wednesday stated that India’s active caseload currently stands at 18,31,000. The country also reported 441 deaths, taking the death toll to 4,87,202. The daily positivity rate also went up to 15.13%. 1,88,157 persons recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. The recovery rate is 93.88 percent. Further, a total of 8,961 Omicron cases were detected so far, which is an increase of 0.79 percent since Tuesday.
