Barak Valley registers 485 Covid +ve cases on Saturday, 658 discharged & 4 deaths recorded

There are 5,762 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

June 5: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Saturday, the number of fresh cases in the valley increased again. A total of 485 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Friday, Barak Valley registered 464 positive cases. Further, during the day, 658 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three  districts of the valley. At present, there are 5,762 active Covid cases in Barak Valley.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Saturday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 353 positive cases   (It was 316 on Friday)
  • Karimganj: 70 positive cases (It was 83 on Friday)
  • Hailakandi: 62 positive cases (It was 65 on Friday)

A total of 353 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Thursday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 9,704 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 264 persons were found positive, whereas 89 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 12,547 whereas during this phase, 9,147 patients were discharged. Also, 447 patients were discharged after getting cured during the day. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has reached 3,281.

Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 4 June to 5 PM on 5 June) witnessed demise of 04 Covid-19 positive patients, out of which 02 died at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) and 02 at Cachar Cancer Hospital. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. All the 4 deceased are from Cachar district.

The deceased at SMCH were identified as Sujit Barman (65) from Kulicherra in Cachar district and Kanailal Lohar (85) from Darmikhal in Cachar. Whereas, one of the deceased at Cachar Cancer Hospital was identified as Subhadra Bhoglari from Cachar who died on Friday evening. However, the details of the other deceased at Cachar Cancer Hospital was not known till the filing of this report.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 5 June, there were 243 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 95 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 148 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 32 patients were put under ventilator support and 148 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 30 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 42 of them were discharged. Further, 40 of them have opted for home isolation.

Hailakandi registered 62 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday. Of the 62 positive cases detected on Saturday, 60 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 02 found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 1,312 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,805 RAT tests and 192 RT-PCR tests were done. 122 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 6,671. As of now, 2,036 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 65 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Friday.

As of now, in the 56,500 persons have received the 1st dose of the vaccine (irrespective of age), whereas, 16,748 have been administered the 2nd dose in Hailakandi district.

Karimganj registered 70 fresh COVID-19 cases on Saturday. The district has currently 1,169 active COVID-19 cases, while 89 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Saturday. 3,556 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 83 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Friday.

On Saturday, out of 1,15,968 tests, 3,781 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 4,32,714. The positivity rate in the state is 3.26 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 276 positive cases during the day. Further, on Saturday, 44 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 3,621. The recovery rate is 86.97 percent. On Saturday, 3,099 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 3,76,343 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged.  The recovery rate in the state is 86.97 percent. At present, there are 51,403 active cases in the state.

Further, during the day, 44 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 44 deceased, 06 are from Nagaon; 05 from Kamrup Metro; 04 from Dibrugarh; 03 each from Karbi Anglong, Sonitpur & Sivasagar; 02 each from Cachar, Bongaigaon, Hojai, Jorhat & Tinsukia; 01 each from Baksa, Barpeta, Charaideo, Darrang, Dhemaji, Golaghat, Kamrup Rural, Karimganj, Lakhimpur & Udalguri. The death tally of the state now stands at 3,621.
