Barak Valley registers 417 Covid +ve cases on Saturday, 418 discharged & 4 deaths at SMCH

There are 4,574 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

June 12: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Saturday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less. A total of 417 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day.  Further, during the day, 418 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three  districts of the valley. At present, there are 4,574 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Friday, Barak Valley registered 443 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Saturday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 251 positive cases   (It was 311 on Friday)
  • Karimganj: 109 positive cases (It was 82 on Friday)
  • Hailakandi: 57 positive cases (It was 50 on Friday)

 A total of 251 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Saturday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 3,940 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 180 persons were found positive, whereas 71 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test.  With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 14,738 whereas during this phase, 11,963 patients were discharged. Also, 193 patients were discharged on Saturday. The number of active cases in Cachar has reached 2,632.  Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 11 June to 5 PM on 12 June) witnessed demise of 04 Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. Out of the 4 deceased, 03 are from Cachar, whereas 01 belongs to Hailakandi.

The deceased were identified as: Pushpa Rani Biswas (84) from Nutan Para in Hailakandi, Fakrul Islam Barbhuiya (50) from Dakkhin Krishnapur in Cachar, S Kulachandra (72) from Lakhipur in Cachar and Alauddin Barbhuiya (60) from Baghabazar in Cachar.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 12 June, there were 195 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 82 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 113of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 17 patients were put under ventilator support and 138 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 25 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 28 of them were discharged. Further, 10 of them have opted for home isolation.

Hailakandi registered 57 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday. Of the 57 positive cases detected on Saturday, 56 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 01 found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 814 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 2,022 RAT tests and 215 RT-PCR tests were done. 176 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 7,098. As of now, a total of 2,875 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 50 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Friday.

As of now, in the 59,582 persons have received the 1st dose of the vaccine (irrespective of age), whereas, 17,285 have been administered the 2nd dose in Hailakandi district.

Karimganj registered 109 fresh COVID-19 cases on Friday. The district has currently 1,128 active COVID-19 cases, while 49 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Thursday. 4,127 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 82 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Friday.

On Saturday, out of 1,61896 tests, 3,463 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 4,57,330. The positivity rate in the state is 2.14 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 246 positive cases during the day. Further, on Saturday, 42 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 3,915. The recovery rate is 89.38 percent. On Saturday, 5,600 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 4,08,770 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged  At present, there are 43,298 active cases in the state.

Further, during the day, 42 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 42 deceased, 07 are from Jorhat; 05 from Dibrugarh; 04 each from Sivasagar & Sonitpur; 03 each from Golaghat & Kamrup Metro; 02 each from Hailakandi, Morigaon & Nagaon; 01 each from Baksa, Biswanath, Cachar, Charaideo, Hojai, Kamrup Rural, Karbi Anglong, Nalbari, Tinsukia & Udalguri. The death tally of the state now stands at 3,915.
