Barak Valley registers 364 positive cases on Friday
August 28: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Friday, the number of fresh cases again increased in the valley. A total of 364 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Thursday, Barak Valley registered 278 positive cases. In the last 24 hours, the Valley witnessed 2 more deaths at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH), both of them are from Karimganj district.
Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Friday in Barak Valley:
- Cachar: 167 positive cases (It was 134 on Thursday)
- Karimganj: 62 positive cases (It was 34 on Thursday)
- Hailakandi: 135 positive cases (It was 110 on Thursday)
On Friday, 167 new cases were reported from across Cachar district. Out of 159 positive cases, 142 of them were found positive in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas 25 were detected positive in four slots of RT-PCR Test. During the day, 1207 rapid tests were done in Cachar.
At present, 21 patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) are in critical condition, out of which, 16 of them are admitted in ICU whereas, 4 of them are in COVID ward. Till now, 83 patients at SMCH has received plasma. In the last 24 hours, 2 persons have died at SMCH. This was disclosed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vive Principal of SMCH on Friday.
In the 1st slot of RT-PCR Test results on Friday, 06 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Cachar district. Out of them, 2 are patients at Cachar Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (CCHRC), Meherpur. In the same slot, another person from Hailakandi who is now admitted at CCHRC was also found positive. The detection of so many positive cases at the Cancer Hospital has really become a cause of major concern.
On Friday, State Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet informed that 135 persons were tested COVID-19 positive in Hailakandi district. However, as per press release issued by DIPRO, Hailakandi, 99 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from South Assam’s Hailakandi district on Friday, taking the total tally to 2,168.
Health authorities here disclosed that of the 99 positive cases, 58 have been detected under the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) while 41 under RT-PCR. Altogether 1,135 cases have been found positive under RAT with over 50 per cent without travel history. 1,669 persons on being cured have been discharged from hospitals.The number of active cases is 484.
Karimganj district registered 62 new COVID-19 positive cases on Friday. Out of 62 positive cases,19 were detected in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas, 43 were found positive in RT-PCR Test. As of now, a total of 2159 persons tested positive in the district. Also, 27 persons were discharged during the day. Till now, 1474 persons were discharged in Karimganj. At present, there are 685 active cases in the district.
Further, two persons from Karimganj died at SMCH in the last 24 hours. They are Ranjan Malakar (56) from Nilkantapur in Karimganj tested positive and was admitted at SMCH at 2 PM on 27 August. He died at 4 PM on 27 August. His death was certified as Non-Covid death by the State Death Audit Board. The other one is Sudhir Das (56) from Longai Road in Karimganj was admitted at SMCH on 23 August. He died on 28 August. His death was also certified as Non-Covid death by the State Death Audit Board.
Apart from the valley, a total of 2560 persons tested positive in Assam on Friday, thereby taking the state tally to 1,01,367. As of now, there are 21,771 active cases in the state. Meanwhile, 1,763 patients were also discharged from across the state during the day. With this, a total of 81,070 persons were discharged in Assam. Moreover, during the day, 08 persons died due to COVID-19 in Assam, thereby taking the death tally to 286.
On Friday, India reported 76,139 new cases of Covid-19, taking the total number of cases in the country to 3,458,186. With 62,703 total deaths as of Friday, India’s case fatality rate (CFR) – the proportion of deaths among the confirmed cases — is 1.8%.
