Barak Valley registers 263 positive cases on Tuesday
September 1: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Tuesday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less compared to the previous day. A total of 263 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Monday, Barak Valley registered 338 positive cases.
Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Tuesday in Barak Valley:
- Cachar: 174 positive cases (It was 189 on Monday)
- Karimganj: 35 positive cases (It was 71 on Monday)
- Hailakandi: 54 positive cases (It was 78 on Monday)
Another 174 new cases of novel coronavirus were detected in Cachar district till 7 PM on Tuesday. During the day, 1206 Rapid Antigen Tests were done. Till now, 46,862 tests were done in Cachar district, out of which, 4,730 were tested positive. A total of 6,399 Rapid Antigen Tests were done so far in the district. The rate of positivity is 10 percent. Under the special drive undertaken by the health department in Municipal area of Silchar, a total of 1,480 Rapid Antigen Tests were done from 27 August to 31 August. 252 positive cases were detected out of the 1480 RAT. Among them, 194 were allowed home isolation, whereas 64 of them were admitted in hospitals.
In his routine media briefing, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) informed that 2 persons from Cachar died at SMCH in the last 24 hours. The deceased was identified as Basanti Das (90) from Rangirkhari Silchar and Gopika Dey (65 years male) from Bhaga in Dholai. However, their deaths were certified as Non-Covid deaths by the State Death Audit Board.
54 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from Hailakandi district on Tuesday, taking the total tally to 2,394. Health authorities here disclosed that of the 54 positive cases, 17 have been detected under the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) while 37 under RT-PCR.
Altogether 1,225 cases have been found positive under RAT with over 50 per cent without travel history. 1,856 persons on being cured have been discharged from hospitals.The number of active cases is 523. Six COVID-19 positive patients have breathed their last at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Nine deaths at SMC&H have been declared as ‘non-COVID’ by the State level Death Audit Board. 128 COVID-19 afflicted persons are under home isolation.
As per sources in SMCH, one Motiur Rahman Laskar (52) from Boalipur in Hailakandi district was admitted in SMCH at 5.26 PM on 31 August. He died in the same night at 11.30. His death was, however, certified as Non-Covid death by the State Death Audit Board.
On Tuesday, 35 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected in Karimganj district. Further, 8 persons got cured and were subsequently discharged on Monday.
Apart from this, 589 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) and 14 RT-PCR tests were done in the district. With this, till now, 2421 persons were infected with novel coronavirus. Out of them, 1544 patients were already discharged. At present, there are 877 active cases in Karimganj. In his routine media briefing, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) informed that 1 person from Karimganj died at SMCH in the last 24 hours. The deceased was identified as Himangshu Sengupta (75) from R.K. Nagar in Karimganj district was admitted in SMCH at 7.15 PM on 29 August. He succumbed to the infection at 10 AM on 1 September. His death was certified as Covid death by the State Death Audit Board.
Apart from the valley, a total of 2684 persons tested positive in Assam on Tuesday, thereby taking the state tally to 1,11,724. As of now, there are 24,514 active cases in the state. Meanwhile, 1,434 patients were also discharged from across the state during the day. With this, a total of 86,892 persons were discharged in Assam. Moreover, during the day, 09 persons died due to COVID-19 in Assam, thereby taking the death tally to 315.
India now has over 36.91 lakh coronavirus cases, after 69,921 infections were reported in the last 24 hours. 28,39,882 patients have recovered from the infection in the country, pushing the recovery rate to 76.93 per cent. In the last 24 hours, 819 Covid-linked deaths were reported, pushing the total death count to 65,288. India is the country with the third-highest coronavirus caseload in the world after the United States and Brazil.
