Barak Valley registers 238 positive cases on Friday

July 31: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Friday, the number of fresh cases again increased in the valley. A total of 238 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Thursday, Barak Valley registered 181 positive cases.

However, there were certain discrepancies in the total number of positive cases in Cachar on Friday. District Media Expert, Suman Choudhury informed that there were 73 positive cases in Cachar on Friday, however, State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet stated that Cachar registered 140 positive cases on Friday.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Friday (31 July) in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 140 positive cases (It was 124 on Friday)
  • Karimganj: 38 positive cases (It was 36 on Friday)
  • Hailakandi: 60 positive cases (It was 21 on Friday)

With 140 new cases of COVID-19 positive on Friday, Cachar recorded a total of 1765 cases of coronavirus as of now. A large number of positive cases on Friday were detected through contact tracing. Apart from this, cases on account of Influenza Like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) were also also found during the day. A doctor from Adi Shib Bari Lane (near Public School), Dr. Parmita Chakraborty was also detected positive in Rapid Antigen Test. One technical staff of Department of Microbiology of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) exhibited Influenza Like Illness (ILI) symptoms. He later on tested positive. He is symptomatic. Another health worker associated with Saksham, Mithun Roy (36) also tested positive. Further, 3 persons were detected positive from Post Office, Silchar, while 1 from Head Post Office, Silchar. Another person from Punjab National Bank, Silchar also tested positive.

Silchar crematorium on Friday night

27-year-old Sayan (Sunny) Das, a tax collector working under Silchar Municipal Board (SMB) died on Friday. His death centred a controversy as doctors declared him COVID positive during the night. A few moments later, he was declared dead. His reports were sent to State Death Audit Board for confirmation. However, as per reports, his last rites were performed at Silchar crematorium on Friday night following COVID protocol.

Hailakandi

On Friday, 60 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from Hailakandi district, taking the total tally to 970. A nine-day old baby has been found COVID-19 positive in Hailakandi district on Friday. In the second slot released by the Department of Microbiology, Silchar Medical College and Hospital, the nine-day old female infant of Nazma Sultana of Bakrihower was found COVID-19 positive. A barber and an auto driver were among those afflicted with the disease. 60 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from South Assam’s Hailakandi district on Friday. Health authorities here disclosed that out of the 60 positive cases on Friday, 45 cases have been detected under the RAT and 15 from swab samples collection. A total of 164 cases have been found positive under RAT so far with majority of them without travel history.

Karimganj district recorded 38 COVID-19 positive cases on Friday taking the total district tally of coronavirus to 700. Till now, 463 patients were cured and discharged. 22 patients were discharged on Friday in Karimganj.

Apart from the valley, a total of 1862 persons tested positive in Assam on Friday, thereby taking the state tally to 40,269. As of now, there are 9811 active cases in the state. Meanwhile, 1277 patients were also discharged from across the state during the day. With this, a total of 30,357 persons were discharged in Assam. Moreover, during the day, 4 persons died due to COVID-19 in Assam, thereby taking the death tally to 98.

Two days after the Union Ministry of Home Affairs announced further relaxations in the lockdown guidelines, the country recorded the biggest jump in coronavirus cases with more than 55,000 people contracting the deadly virus in the past 24 hours. As per the bulletin by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, there has been a spike of 55,079 cases and 779 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the overall contractions in the country past the 16 lakh figure. A total of 16,38,871 positive cases have been recorded in the country so far, including 5,45,318 active cases, 10,57,806 who have been cured/discharged and 35,747 deaths.
