Barak Valley registers 211 Covid-19 +ve cases on Friday; 4 deaths in Cachar

Active cases 785 in Barak Valley

April 30: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Friday, the number of fresh cases in the valley went up again. A total of 211 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Thursday, Barak Valley registered 108 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Thursday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 108 positive cases   (It was also 119 on Wednesday)
  • Karimganj: 46 positive cases (It was 26 on  Wednesday)
  • Hailakandi: 17 positive cases (It was 09 on Wednesday)

The District Health Department of Cachar informed that 154 more persons were detected as coronavirus positive on Thursday. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has now gone up to 530. As per the updated data, a total of 1,980 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done, out of which, a total of 73  persons were found positive in Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), whereas 81 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Dr. Ibrahim Ali Ahmed, District Surveillance Officer (DSO), IDSP, Cachar on Friday night. With this, the district tally of coronavirus cases has gone upto 12,744. Again, 12,068 patients till now were cured and discharged.

In an alarming development, two more Covid-19 positive patients died on Friday at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) taking the death toll during the day to 04.

  • Debashish Deb (65) from Ambicapatty, Silchar was admitted at SMCH on 26 April. He expired at 7.30 PM on 30 April, 2021.
  • Jalal Uddin Barbhuiya (80) from Bihara Part-I in Cachar was admitted at SMCH on 28 April. He died at 7.15 PM on Friday.
  • Moni Rani Das (65) from Trunk Road, Police Quarters, Silchar was admitted at SMCH on 24 April after testing Covid positive. She, however, died on 30 April at 8.15 AM.
  • Pappu Nath (26) from Katlicherra in Hailakandi also took admission at SMCH  on 22 April. He breathed his last at 5.15 PM on 30 April.

Hailakandi reported 21 fresh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, pushing the coronavirus tally in the district to 3,501. With these new cases, the district has altogether 92 active COVID-19 cases while 3,386 patients have been discharged. 21 patients are presently undergoing treatment at SK Roy Civil Hospital, one at Silchar Medical College and Hospital, 67 kept under home isolation and three in other districts. Altogether 1,79,207 samples for COVID-19 have been tested so far, including 1442 samples taken in the last 24 hours. Results of 449 samples are awaited from SMC&H. The district has accounted for nine COVID deaths.

On Friday, out of 2,168 Covid tests done, 36 persons were found to be positive in Karimganj district. This is highest single day spike in Covid cases in the district this year.  Further, during the day, 20 patients were discharged after getting cured. At present, there are 163 active cases in the district. It needs mention here that on Thursday, 46 persons were found positive in Karimganj.

On Friday, out of 72,239 tests, 3,197 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 2,53,123. The positivity rate in the state is 4.43 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 1,184 positive cases during the day. Further, on Friday again, 26 more persons lost their lives in the statedue to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 1,307. This is the highest single-day death toll recorded in Assam for two consecutive days in 2021. On Friday, 2,449 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 2,26,643 patients got cured

Further, during the day, 26 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19, the highest single day figures in the state this year. Out of the 26 deceased, 08 are from Kamrup Metro, 04 from Kamrup Rural, 2 each from Dibrugarh, Hojai, Sivasagar, Nagaon; 1 each from Barpeta, Cachar, Darrang, Golaghat, Nalbari & Udalguri. The death tally of the state now stands at 1,307.
