Barak Valley registers 155 Covid-19 +ve cases on Tuesday, 3 deaths registered

Active cases 732 in Barak Valley

April 27:  The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. OnTuesday, the number of fresh cases in the valley increased once again. A total of 155 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Monday, Barak Valley registered 128 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Tuesday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 115 positive cases   (It was also 90 on Monday)
  • Karimganj: 24 positive cases (It was 21 on  Monday)
  • Hailakandi: 16 positive cases (It was 17 on Monday)

The District Health Department of Cachar informed that 115 more persons were detected as coronavirus positive on Tuesday. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has now gone up to 559. As per the updated data, a total of 1,389 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done, out of which, a total of 50 persons were found positive, whereas 65 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Dr. Ibrahim Ali Ahmed, District Surveillance Officer (DSO), IDSP, Cachar on Tuesday night. It needs mention here that on Monday, the total positive cases detected here was 90. With this, the district tally of coronavirus cases has gone upto 12,411. Again, 11,813 patients till now were cured and discharged in Cachar. Further two Covid patients from Cachar lost their lives at SMCH on Tuesday.

Hailakandi reported 16 fresh COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, pushing the coronavirus tally in the district to 3,454. Of the 16 active cases detected on Tuesday, 12 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test. So far 1,423 have been found positive under RT-PCR and 2,031 under RAT. Results of 487 samples are being awaited from Silchar Medical College and Hospital. The district has altogether 70 active COVID-19 cases while 3,361 patients have recuperated from the affliction. 15 patients are presently undergoing treatment at SK Roy Civil Hospital and 55 kept under home isolation.

On Tuesday, out of 1,738 Covid tests done, 24 persons were found to be positive in Karimganj district. Further, during the day, 12 patients were discharged after getting cured. At present, there are 104 active cases in the district. It needs mention here that on Monday, 21 persons were found positive in the district. As per the data released by NHM Assam, 01 person from Karimganj died during the day.

On Tuesday, out of 62,628 tests, 3,132 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 2,43,802. The positivity rate in the state is 5 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 1,313 positive cases during the day. Further, 18 more persons lost their lives in the state on Tuesday due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 1,233. It needs mention here that on Monday, 3,137 persons tested positive in Assam and 15 deaths were registered. On Tuesday, 955 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 2,21,299 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged from various hospitals and Covid Care centres across the state.

Further, during the day, 18 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19, the highest single day figures in the state this year. Out of the 18 deceased, 05 are from Kamrup Metro, 2 each from Cachar, Goalpara & Nalbari and 1 each from Karimganj, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Hojai, Jorhat, Kamrup Rural & Sibsagar. The death tally of the state now stands at 1,233.
