Barak Valley registers 152 Covid +ve cases on Saturday, 135 discharged & 2 deaths at SMCH

There are 1,225 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

July 3: The number of coronavirus positive cases are gradually decreasing in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Saturday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less. A total of 152 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. Further, during the day, 135 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three districts of the valley. At present, there are 1,225 active Covid cases in Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Friday, Barak Valley registered 183 positive cases.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Saturday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 73 positive cases   (It was 93 on Friday)
  • Karimganj: 70 positive cases (It was 76 on Friday)
  • Hailakandi: 09 positive cases (It was 14 on Friday)

 A total of 73 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Saturday in Cachar. As per the updated data, a total of 12,507 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 45 persons were found positive, whereas 28 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 17,802, whereas during this phase, 17,074 patients were discharged. The number of active cases in Cachar has reached 560.  Also, 25 patients were discharged during the day.  Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 2 July to 5 PM on 3 July) witnessed demise of 02 Covid-19 positive patients at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. Out of the two deceased, one of them is from Cachar, while the other is from Hailakandi .

The two deceased were identified as Nur Islam Laskar (08) from Sheralipur in Hailakandi district and  Salehuddinraj Khan (74) from Nagatilla in Cachar district.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 3 July, there were 110 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 50 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 60 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 19 patients were put under ventilator support and 81 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 20 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 12 of them were discharged.

Hailakandi registered 09 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday. Of the 09 positive cases detected on Saturday, 08 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) whereas 01 person was detected positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 115 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,486 RAT tests and 274 RT-PCR tests were done. 17 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 7,537 (both 1st & 2nd wave).  As of now, a total of 4,002 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 14 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Friday. Till date 45 persons died due to Covid-19 in Hailakandi district.

Karimganj registered 70 fresh COVID-19 cases on Saturday. The district has currently 550 active COVID-19 cases, while 93 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Saturday. 4,555 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 76 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Friday.

On Saturday, out of 1,34,085 tests, 2,375 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 5,15,981. The positivity rate in the state is 1.77 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 168 positive cases during the day. Further, on Saturday, 28 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 4,632. The recovery rate is 94.19 percent. On Saturday, 2,524 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 4,86,265 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged. At present, there are 23,737 active cases in the state.

Further, during the day, 28 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 28 deceased, 03 each are from Charaideo, Jorhat & Nagaon; 02 each from Lakhimpur & Morigaon; 01 each from Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Cachar, Darrang, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Hojai, Karimganj, Kokhrajhar, Sivasagar & Sonitpur. The death tally of the state now stands at 4,632.
