Barak at Annapurna Ghat below danger level, flowing at 19.59 mt at 4 PM on Monday
May 23: Due to incessant rainfall since the last few days, the water level of river Barak started to rise. However, on Monday, the water level at Annapurna Ghat was gradually decreasing. At 7 AM on Monday, the water level of Barak came down below the danger level.
As per report received from Assam Water Resource Department, river Barak at Annapurna Ghat, Silchar at 4 PM on Monday, was flowing much below the danger level and was recorded at 19.59 metres. The danger level at this point is 19.83 metre. The water level is decreasing at 1 cm per hour at this hour. However, though the level of Barak was decreasing, but in many parts of Silchar, the water level was increasing and new areas in West Silchar were submerged.
The highest flood level at this point was recorded at 21.763 on 11 September, 2007.
