Awareness campaign on Yoga session & Ayush practices organised by Cachar dist administration

DDC, Cachar urges lactating mothers and pregnant women to take holistic approach towards practicing Yoga

Sept.9: An awareness campaign on Yoga session and Ayush practices for better nutrition was held at the community hall of Chota Dudpatil model village under Borkhola constituency on Thursday. The programme was jointly organised by the District Administration Cachar and Health Department.

District Development Commissioner, Cachar Rajib Roy graced the occasion as the Chief guest in presence of Chief Executive Officer, Cachar Zilla Parishad and Additional Deputy Commissioner, Health, Eldad Lalthakum Faihriem and Senior Planning Officer, Ruli Daulagupu.

While addressing the gathering, District Development Commissioner (DDC), Roy said, “Nowadays, Yoga is popular worldwide. It has reached almost every part of the globe. People practice yoga in some form or the other for spiritual or health purposes and to overcome stress. “I would like to place on record my gratitude to various Yoga schools in India which have tirelessly propagated and promoted Yoga not only in India but also abroad. Today Yoga is popular because of its therapeutic credentials as also for it’s overall benefits,” DDC, Roy added.

Emphasising on the various aspects of Yoga practices, he stated that most of the modern-day health problems are because of sedentary life styles.And Yoga is an efficacious means to overcome those diseases. “The uniqueness of therapeutic benefits of Yoga is that it can work along with any other drug systems of healthcare and this enables the practitioners of other systems of medicine , including modern medicine experts to prescribe Yoga to the patients. I also urge all lactating mothers and pregnant women, those who are present here to include Yoga in your daily routine,” DDC, Roy quipped.

Chief Executive Officer, Cachar Zilla Parishad and Additional Deputy Commissioner, Health, Faihriem, who was the guest of honour, said, “Ayush is the acronym of the medical system in India such as Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy. These systems are based on definite medical philosophies and represent a way of healthy living with established concepts on prevention of diseases and promotion of health.” Senior Planning Officer, Daulagupu, in her address, stated that Dudhpatil has been identified by the Government of India for conversion into model village under PMAGY by taking gap filling and convergence projects. Schemes like installation of solar street lights, MI bund and roads have been taken up for execution under PMAGY scheme.

District Nodal Officer, Ayush, Dr.Manoj Kathar stated that Infant Mortality Rate and Maternal Mortality Rate can be reduced by Ayurvedic medicine and Yoga. He advised the lactating mothers and pregnant women to consume fruits like dates, pomegranate, apple and add leafy vegetables in their daily diets which are the main sources of iron and calcium. Dr.Kathar also stressed on the practice of Pranayama and Yoga which, in turn, helps the foetus development during pregnancy period and also after post natal check up period.

Later, Yoga and Pranayama were also demonstrated on the occasion by the dignitaries and officials under the supervision of Yoga expert, Sukumar Nath. Assistant Engineer, Zilla Parishad, Saptajit Dey was also present on the occasion.
