Attack on Pradyut’s convoy, Assam Police blames expelled Congress leader

way2barak, April 29: A day after a convoy of Congress leaders including Nagaon MP Pradyut Bordoloi was attacked on Sunday, Assam police say that the attack was planned by a Congress member who was recently expelled from the party.

MP Bordoloi and Batadrava MLA Sibamoni Bora had minor injuries and their vehicles were damaged after they were attacked by unidentified miscreants with rods and hockey sticks in Dhing in Nagaon district Sunday evening. They were travelling as part of their campaigning for the upcoming panchayat polls.

Bordoloi had alleged Sunday that it was a premeditated attack orchestrated by the BJP.

On Monday, Nagaon SP Swapnaneel Deka told reporters that the “main suspect” in the attack is an individual named Imdadul Islam after an FIR was registered in connection with the incident on Sunday.

“We have come to know that one Imdadul Islam, who was expelled from the Congress is behind this. There were some more people with him, who had come from the Lahorighat Bhuragaon area,” he said, adding that police are currently looking for the suspect.

While Congress leaders have condemned the attack as pre-poll violence in the run-up to the panchayat polls, the BJP allege that the attack was prompted by a dispute over ticket allocation for the elections.
