Attack on MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi: Special DGP visits Assam- Nagaland border, conducts inquiry
May 28: In a shocking incident, Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi on Thursday narrowly escaped gunshots by suspected Naga miscreants along the Assam-Nagaland border during his visit to Disai Valley to enquire into a land eviction matter where illegal occupants from Nagaland have encroached land inside Assam territory. At least 15 to 20 rounds were fired by the miscreants. A case has been registered by MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi against the miscreants.
Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed concern over the firing incident that took place at New Sonowal Border Outpost (BOP) at Assam-Nagaland interstate border. Through a statement, the Chief Minister termed the incident as unfortunate which can jeopardise the relation between the two neighbouring states. He directed Special DGP G.P. Singh to travel to the site of the incident and conduct inquiry.
On Friday, Special DGP G P Singh went to Disoi Valley to investigate the whole incident. DGP Singh visited the site along with the SPs of Assam and Nagaland and reviewed the situation. GP Singh later informed that the Nagaland representatives have been strongly advised to disengage from the area immediately. He further informed that a case has been already going on in the Supreme Court regarding the Disoi Valley land encroachments. “Necessary steps have been taken to prevent the occurrence of similar incidents in the future,” said the Special DGP.
