Assam University begins 150th birth anniversary Celebrations of Birsa Munda
বিরসা মুণ্ডার জন্মের সার্ধশতবর্ষ উদযাপনের সূচনা আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে

ওয়ে টু বরাক, ১৭ নভেম্বর : স্বাধীনতার বহু আগেই স্বাধীনতার প্রদীপ প্রজ্জ্বলনকারী তথা ঔপনিবেশিক শোষণের বিরুদ্ধে প্রতিবাদের অগ্রদূত বিরসা মুণ্ডার জন্মের সার্ধশতবর্ষ সারা বছর জুড়ে উদযাপন করবে আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়। গত শনিবার সন্ধ্যায় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের মূল প্রবেশদ্বারে এই বর্ষব্যাপী কার্যক্রমের সূচনা হয়। আনুষ্ঠানিক উদ্বোধন করেন উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক রাজীব মোহন পন্থ। এ উপলক্ষে আয়োজিত অনুষ্ঠানে অন্যদের মধ্যে উপস্থিত ছিলেন বিভিন্ন স্কুলের ডিন, বিভাগীয় প্রধান সহ অধ্যাপক-অধ্যাপিকা, শিক্ষাকর্মী ও ছাত্রছাত্রীরা।

বক্তব্য রাখতে গিয়ে উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক পন্থ বিরসা মুন্ডার জীবনদর্শনের চিরন্তন প্রাসঙ্গিকতার কথা তুলে ধরেন। তিনি বলেন, আজ আমরা ভগবান বিরসা মুন্ডাকে শুধু ইতিহাসের চরিত্র হিসেবে স্মরণ করি না, বরং এক অদম্য সাহস, ন্যায়ের জন্য অবিচল সংগ্রাম এবং আত্মমর্যাদার প্রতীকে রূপে স্মরণ করি। আদিবাসী সমাজের অধিকার, মর্যাদা ও সাংস্কৃতিক পরিচয়ের জন্য তাঁর সংগ্রাম আজও আমাদের আরও অন্তর্ভুক্তিমূলক ও ন্যায়ভিত্তিক সমাজ গড়তে উদ্বুদ্ধ করে।

অনুষ্ঠানে এই অসাধারণ নেতার উত্তরণের যাত্রা তুলে ধরা হয়। ঔপনিবেশিক শাসনের শোষণে নিজের সমাজের ভূমি, সংস্কৃতি ও মর্যাদার ক্ষয় প্রত্যক্ষ করে এক কিশোর বিরসা পরিণত হন এক সংগ্রামের আলোকবর্তিকায়।
কৈশোরেই তিনি সাহস, ঐক্য ও পরিচয়ের শক্তিশালী বার্তায় জনজাতীয় সমাজকে জাগিয়ে তোলেন। তাঁর ‘উলগুলান’ আন্দোলন সচেতনতার ক্ষুদ্র স্ফুলিঙ্গ থেকে পরিণত হয় এক প্রবল বিপ্লবে—স্ব-মর্যাদা ও স্বশাসনের অধিকার প্রতিষ্ঠার লড়াইয়ে।

আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের বছরব্যাপী কর্মসূচিতে থাকবে সেমিনার, সাংস্কৃতিক অনুষ্ঠান ও শিক্ষামূলক আলোচনা ইত্যাদি। এই কর্মসূচি আয়োজনের লক্ষ্য হচ্ছে বিরসা মুণ্ডার জীবন, দর্শন ও তাঁর প্রভাবকে গভীরভাবে অনুধাবন করা—যাতে তাঁর অনুপ্রেরণামূলক কাহিনি আগামী প্রজন্মের মনেও ছড়িয়ে দেওয়া যায়।

Way2barak, November 17 : Assam University will celebrate throughout the year the 150th birth anniversary of Birsa Munda — the torchbearer of freedom long before India’s independence and a pioneer of resistance against colonial exploitation. The year-long programme was inaugurated last Saturday evening at the university’s main entrance. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajiv Mohan Pant formally inaugurated the event. Deans of various schools, heads of departments, faculty members, administrative staff, and students were present on the occasion.

In his address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Pant highlighted the timeless relevance of Birsa Munda’s philosophy of life. He said that today we remember Bhagwan Birsa Munda not merely as a historical figure but as a symbol of indomitable courage, unwavering struggle for justice, and self-respect. His fight for the rights, dignity, and cultural identity of the tribal community continues to inspire us to build a more inclusive and just society.

The event showcased the remarkable journey of this extraordinary leader. Witnessing the loss of land, culture, and dignity of his community under colonial exploitation, the young Birsa emerged as a beacon of resistance. Even in his youth, he awakened the tribal society with his powerful message of courage, unity, and identity. His Ulgulan movement grew from a spark of awareness into a powerful revolution — a struggle to reclaim self-respect and the right to self-governance.

Assam University’s year-long programme will include seminars, cultural events, and educational discussions. The aim is to explore deeply the life, philosophy, and influence of Birsa Munda, so that his inspiring legacy can be passed on to the generations to come.
