Assam Univ: TDC CBCS 2nd, 4th sem students to be promoted as per UGC guideline; exam only for 6th sem

July 22: The students of TDC CBCS intermediate semesters (2nd & 4th) in affiliated colleges of Assam University will be promoted to the next semester as per the guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC) on the basis of 50 percent marks secured in Internal Assessment and 50 percent in the previous semester. However, for students of TDC 6th semester, offline examination (pen & paper mode) along with arrear/ backlog papers shall be held after re-opening of the campus. The tentative schedule of Examination is 8 to 28 September 2020. This was stated in a notification issued by Dr. Pradosh Kiran Nath, Registrar in-charge of Assam University on 22 July, 2020.

The pattern of questions for terminal semester (6th sem) TDC Non-CBCS courses shall be as follows: Three (3) questions from each unit instead of two will be set. Students will have an option to answer any five questions out of total 15 questions. This is only for TDC (Non-CBCS) sixth (ie terminal) semester. For arrear/backlog papers other than sixth semester, students will have the option to answer any five questions instead of stipulation of answer any one from each unit. Assessment of project/practical paper(s) for end semester examination of terminal semester students shall be held offline as per usual practice.

Performance of the students of intermediate semester for all UG/PG/other courses of the University including affiliated colleges shall be evaluated on the basis of internal assessment and past performance as per UGC guidelines referred to above. For practical papers, evaluation shall be based on assignment/ project.

In case a student of terminal semester is unable to take the end semester examination conducted offline by the University for whatsoever reasons; he/she shall get an opportunity to appear in special examination for such course(s)/paper(s) which will be conducted by the University as and when feasible. Re-evaluation for exam conducted in offline mode shall be as per usual practice. However, there will be no re-evaluation for exams which will be held other than offline mode.

For students of TDC (CBCS) intermediate (2nd and 4th) Semester, course paper(s) AECC 201(2nd Sem) and SEC 401 (4th Sem); the colleges shall conduct an assessment based on Project/Assignment within one month of notification and provide marks for the students (out of 50). Marks foil shall be provided accordingly by CoE. For all other papers of CBCS, the evaluation shall be based on internal assessment and past performance.

The University is on the process of drafting SoP for opening the University campus for students to conduct the Examination safely and smoothly. The same shall be notified shortly. All affiliated colleges are also expected to prepare guidelines/SoP and adhere to it for ensuring safety of students and staff in respective College campus. University has informed District administration that the Semester Exam has been scheduled in September 2020 as per directives of UGC and thereupon requested to vacate the quarantine units by August 10, 2020. All colleges are also expected to take up the matter with respective district administration and ensure proper cleaning of the campus by August 15, 2020.

Out station students and teachers of the University (other than affiliated Colleges) may wait for specific instruction by the University before proceeding to station. Outstation students and teachers of affiliated colleges may keep in touch with College and may abide by instruction of College, if any in this regard. Students are expected to be prepared for online education as mandated by UGC and should try to remain connected accordingly.

Further, it was stated that the online classes for intermediate semester (next semester) may be started by the affiliated colleges by 1 August, 2020.
