Assam Univ issues guidelines for TDC Final Sem online exam
Sept. 16: In the backdrop of protest launched by a section of the students, Assam University, Silchar has agreed to conduct the forthcoming TDC non-CBCS Final Semester examination in both offline and online mode. The examinations will commence from 29 September, 2020 and will continue till 19 October, 2019. The decision of conducting the examination in blended mode (online & offline) was taken in an emergent meeting of the Standing Committee of Academic Council held on Monday, which was attended by Principals of various colleges and representatives of the College Teachers’ Association. However, all Practical examinations will be held only in offline mode.
Speaking to newsman, Dr. Suprabir Dutta Roy, Advisor to Vice-Chancellor on Examination said, “A section of the media came out with reports that final exam will be held in online mode for urban students and for the rural students, it will be held offline. But this is totally a wrong information published. No such discussion took place in the Standing Committee meeting on Monday, where the exam modalities were finalised. All students will be given an option to appear in online or offline mode, irrespective of towns and villages.”
The students will be given an option to appear in either online or offline mode. For this, they need to submit an undertaking to their respective colleges on or before 20 September, 2020. However, once the declaration is given, online students cannot switch over to offline mode and vice-versa. There will be no re-evaluation for students who will appear in online mode. However, this category of students can oft for betterment.
The student want to appear online examination should ensure that they will arrange required gazettes (computer/ tab/ mobile etc), internet connectivity, power supply etc. on their own. Those (both online & offline) candidates who will appear the same will not get special chance to appear same when situation will be normal. Non submission of online answer script after completion of examination within stipulated time will be treated as absent.
The online examination shall be conducted by the college in a GOOGLE MEET (Question paper will be given in the Google class room/ mail student will take print out of it/ screen shot of the question paper can be used/ write the questions he intends to answer and then join in the Google meet answer will be submitted in Google Class Room) as per the schedule of the offline examination at the same time. However it will be invigilated by one faculty of the college on camera who will authenticate the downloaded hard copy. This will also be countersigned by the Officer-in-Charge / Principal of the college. Any doubt in regard of question can be asked by the students in chat box without disturbing the class. Camera should be ON and mike should be OFF for the entire time period of the examination.
The students appearing online examination shall be given extra time for preparation (i) 10 minutes before commencement of examination for downloading question paper and (ii) 20 minutes after completion of examination for uploading the answer script. At the end of the exam, the students shall have to upload the scanned/ photographed written answer script (pages in A4 size paper) within 20 minutes of completion of the examination in pdf format. The students shall have to upload clean legible scanned/ photographed copy of answer script for paper evaluation. Illegible/ poorly visible scanned/ photographed answer scripts will not be considered for evaluation.
The students are to write Roll, No, subject & paper on every sheet of paper of the answer script which should of A-4 paper. Answer should be hand written. Each and every pages of answer script should be signed by the student Online attendance will be taken by the invigilator and sent along with answer scripts for evaluation. Further, the students shall have to submit the hand written original copy of the answer script to the college within 30 days, failing which his/her result may be withheld.
The students willing to appear in online mode of examination shall have to sign an undertaking giving the following declarations:

- The students shall arrange all the facilities required (Laptop/ Desktop/ Ipad/ Mobile/ Internet connection/ power backup etc) for appearing online examination.
- They shall also download required software/ apps required for appearing online examination as prescribed by the university/ college. I shall ensure that the device used will be compatible with the software/ app. They shall also maintain the sanctity of the examination process as prescribed for offline candidates in the admit card.
- They will have to appear the online examination from a secluded place, where no other person (including family members) will be allowed to enter during the examination hours.
- Further, the students are to ensure that they shall be always available through online monitoring during examination through video conferencing tools (e.g. Google Meet) to the invigilator assigned by the college/ university.
- They shall upload the scanned/ photographed written answer script (pages in A4 size paper) within 20 minutes of completion of the examination in pdf format. It will be the sole responsibility of the student to ensure proper internet connection for appearing the examination, downloading of question papers, uploading answer scripts in pdf format. In case they fail to do so, then their attendance will be considered as absent and they shall not have any claim in this regard.
- It was also mentioned that appearing in online examination depends on proper internet connectivity. So the students shall, not claim any support from college/ university, and they will be solely responsible for any such problem faced by the during examination.
- The decision of the university/ college regarding online examination conduct rule will be final and I shall be bound to abide by the same.
