Assam govt issues dress code for officials: No more casuals like T-shirts & jeans

May 8: It’s time for the government officials and staff of Assam to change their wardrobe. They will now have to part away with casuals like T-shirts, jeans etc. Assam government has issued an office order on 7 May directing the government officials to avoid jeans, T-shirts while on official duty. The order urged upon the government officials to maintain a neat, clean and formal appearance during VVIP visits and Government functions.

The office order issued by Chief Secretary, Government of Assam, Jishnu Barua on 7 May stated, “It is observed that some of the officials engaged in official duty during VVIP visits and Government functions, attend duties dressed in casuals like T-shin, jeans etc, which is unbecoming of a public servant. In order to maintain the high standard of conduct. dignity and decorum of the events, the officers/ employees/ personnel engaged in official duties during the visits of VVIPs, Government functions etc., are required to maintain a neat, clean and formal appearance that is appropriate for the event.”

“All the officers/ officials/ employees/ personnel engaged in official duties during any Government function/ event and visit of VVIPs to the state, should be in appropriate, formal, modest clean and decent clothes. The police personnel, medical and paramedical staff engaged in official duties, during such events should strictly don the uniform prescribed for them,” added the new government dictum.

The Chief Secretary in the order further stated that “Any violation in this regard would be viewed seriously and suitable action would be taken against the erring official by the concerned authorities.”
