Assam COVID-19: Biggest single-day spike of 269 +ve cases on Wednesday, 76 patients discharged

June 3: Wednesday witnessed the biggest single-day spike of coronavirus positive cases in the state of Assam. A total of 269  COVID-19 cases were reported from Assam on 03 June. As people stranded outside the state started to pour in, the number of coronavirus cases has been on the rise. It is quite obvious, when people from the hotspots are travelling back to their home states, there will definitely be a spike in the number of positive cases. From one positive case in 31 March, it has now gone upto 1830 on 3 June. A hundred cases a day seems to have become the norm.

The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in the state was 1561 on 2 June. But on 3 June, the numbers went on increasing almost the whole day and reached 1830. Out of this, there are 1410 active cases in the state.  All eyes seemed to be on the twitter page of State Health Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. Here is the complete sequence of how the positive cases were reported on 3 June.

  1. 03 June, 10.50 AM: 60 new cases: 38 Dhubri, 18 Golaghat & 4 Nagaon.
  2. 03 June, 01.55 PM: 51 new cases: 28 Dhubri, 13 Darrang, 5 Karimganj, 3 Sonitpur & 2 Lakhimpur
  3. 03 June, 09.30 PM: 84 new cases: 30 Dima Hasao, 20 Hojai, 14 Biswanath, 10 Dibrugarh, 3 Kamrup, 2 Karimganj, 2 Airport, 1 Cachar, 1 Udalguri & 1 Lakhimpur
  4. 03 June, 10.55 PM: 74 new cases: 59 Dhubri, 14 Nagaon & 1 Udalguri.

Amidst this enveloping darkness, there were ofcourse some rays of hope on Wednesday as the total number of patients cured and discharged also went up to 76 in the state. Till now, a total of 413 patients were discharged in Assam. Let’s have a quick glance of the break-up of 76 patients who were discharged on 1 June:

  • 39 discharged from Sonapur CH
  • 10 discharged from FAAMC
  • 07 discharged from Dima Hasao CH
  • 04 discharged from GMCH
  • 02 discharged from SMCH
  • 03 discharged from JMCH
  • 01 discharged from MMCH
  • 05 discharged from Golaghat CH
  • 05 discharged from Lakhimpur CH

As the numbers are soaring up at an alarming rate, it’s essential for the people to stay at home as far as possible, follow social distancing and hygiene norms. Further, to stay safe, people must also follow government advisory of wearing face masks and washing hands frequently with soap.
