Aryan Senior Secondary School observes Rabindra Jayanti in a befitting manner

May 11: The 161st birth anniversary of one of the most loved and influential poets of all time, Rabindranath Tagore was observed on May 9. The day is usually regarded as ‘Rabindra Jayanti.’ Along with the rest of the nation, Aryan Senior Secondary School, Silchar also observed the day in a befitting manner. A host of events on the works of Tagore were under taken by the school during the day.

During the day, the observation of Rabindra Jayanti began with offering of floral tribute at the portrait of the noble laureate by the Principal, faculty members and students of the college. Faculty members highlighted the various aspects of the life and works of Rabindranath Tagore. Teachers also performed Rabindra Sangeet, recited poems of Tagore. The celebration was well coordinated by Dr Moumita Nath, a faculty of the Department of Anthropology of the School.

Born on May 7, 1861 to Debendranath Tagore and Sarada Devi, Tagore was an author, poet, dramatist, philosopher, artist and painter who has contributed immensely to the nation. He didn’t just change the map of Bengali literature in India but was also the linchpin of the Indian freedom struggle through his music and poems. Gurudev, a moniker given to him by Mahatma Gandhi, became the first Indian and the first non-European to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913 for his work, Gitanjali.
