Assam govt to give ₹3,500 per month to children who have lost both parents to Covid-19

May 29: Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma announced Mukhyamantri Sishu Sewa Achoni that will take care of well-being and education of children who have lost their parents to Covid-19. He was addressing a press conference at Assam Administrative Staff College, Guwahati.

ImageUnder the scheme, children who lost both their parents but have guardians in their extended families will get Rs 3,500 per month. It will be provided till they attain the level of employment, said the Chief Minister. Such children below 10 years without any family support left will be given shelter in child care institutions and provided proper upkeep and education facilities. Further, the CM said that orphan adolescent girls will be accommodated in reputed institutions such as Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya to ensure their sensitive care and proper protection.

All such orphaned school/ college going children and those undergoing vocational training will be provided laptops/ tablets.

The Chief Minister further went on to declare that if in case of any girl of marriageable age having lost her parents, Govt of Assam will provide one tola of gold under Arundhati scheme and one time assistance of Rs 50,000 for her marriage.
