Another wicket down: Former APCC President Ripun Bora leaves Congress, joins TMC

April 17: Finally, Congress was deserted by another of its top leader. On Sunday, former APCC President, Ripun Bora formally joined the Trinamool Congress. After Sushmita Dev, he is the 2nd big Congress leader from Assam to join the TMC. On Sunday, Ripun Bora joined TMC in the presence of its National General Secretary, Abhishek Banerjee. Also present during the occasion were TMC Rajya Sabha MPs Sushmita Dev and Derek O’Brien.

Expressing his views, Abhishek Banerjee tweeted, “Extending a very warm welcome to Shri Ripun Bora, a stalwart and skilled politician, who joined the TMC family today. We are extremely pleased to have you onboard and look forward to working together for the well-being of our people!”

I welcome Ripun Bora ji to the AITC  family. Looking forward to building the organisation together in Assam,” tweeted MP Sushmita Dev.

Earlier during the day, Ripun Bora tendered his resignation to Congress President Sonai Gandhi. In straight words, Bora wrote about the ‘vested interests of the present Congress Party.” He also lamented the way in which during the recent concluded Rajya Sabha election, the APCC leaders acted against the interest of the party.
