Anna Hazare calls off indefinite fast, claims govt agreed to some of his demands

Jan. 29: Hours after announcing the decision to hold the indefinite fast against the new farm laws, social activist Anna Hazare on Friday said he won’t be proceeding with the indefinite fast against the new farm laws and claimed that the Central government has agreed to 15 demands raised by him for the farmers. “The Union government has agreed to some of my demands and also announced setting up a committee to improve the lives of farmers. I have decided to suspend my proposed indefinite fast starting from Saturday,” Hazare said.

Earlier in the day, the 83-year-old said he will begin his indefinite hunger strike at his village of Ralegan Siddhi in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar district from Saturday. He had also urged his supporters to fast at their respective locations. As per reports, MoS Agriculture Kailash Choudhary along with BJP leader and Maharashtra Leader of Opposition (LoP) Devendra Fadnavis met Hazare at his hometown Ralegansiddhi on Friday to convince him to not start the protest.

Hazare, while announcing the hunger strike, had said that he has been demanding reforms in the agriculture sector, but the Centre doesn’t seem to be taking the right decisions.
