Amrit Dhara : cleanliness drive at Annapurna Ghat

way2barak February 27: In accordance with National River Conservation Directorate (NRCD), the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun, in association with Cachar College, Silchar organized ‘Amrit Dhara- A Festival of Rivers’ on 27th February 2025.
The program was aimed at spreading awareness about the conservation and importance of rivers. Stressing the need for mitigation of increasing pollution around the Barak River, representatives from WII, and students, & faculties of Cachar College joined hands for a cleanliness drive at Annapurna Ghat, Silchar.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sumit Kumar, Senior Project Associate from WII, apprised the students on the importance of healthy rivers and clean water for the survival of human race. He further mentioned the role of Ramnath Kovind, former President of India for initiating Nationwide River conservation programmes, which are currently continuing under the supervision of NRCD and WII. He also insisted the students to take responsibility of our own rivers and save them from further deterioration.

The program was conducted by Dr. Sumit Kumar, and Shri Titas Das from WII, Dehradun. Birupakshya Paul Choudhury, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology and Meghadeepa Deb, lecturer, Department of Zoology were among the faculties present in the program and cleanliness drive. The overall program was coordinated by Birupakshya Paul Choudhury.
