Amidst internal chaos, Himanta Biswa to attend meeting of BJP in Silchar on 9 March

March 8: At a time, when speculations are ripe about an in-house fight amongst the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in Silchar, BJP heavyweight leader Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma is all set to visit Silchar on 9 March, 2021. As per his schedule, Himanta Biswa will be attending a meeting of BJP at 4 PM in Silchar on Tuesday.

Taking to his twitter handle on Monday late night, Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “I shall be attending nomination programs of HCM @sarbanandsonwal and @BJP4Assam Secretary @tarangagogoi on Tuesday, March 9, 2021. Also, I shall attend BJP Meeting at Silchar.”

The arrival of Himanta Biswa Sarma in Silchar at this juncture assumes great significance when veteran BJP leader & former Union Minister Kabindra Purkayastha in a press meet severely criticised the party leadership for denying party nomination to his son Kanad Purkayastha in the ensuing assembly elections. Sitting MLA Dilip Kumar Paul too expressed his displeasure for depriving him the hat trick chance by denying him the ticket. As per sources, Mr. Paul has decided to contest the assembly polls from Silchar as an independent candidate. He is also learnt to have collected the nomination form as an independent candidate.

When such is the surcharged political atmosphere in Silchar, the arrival of Himanta Biswa Sarma is seen by many as a visit to pacify the disgruntled lot and offer a strong challenge to the Congress and other parties during the forthcoming polls. Meanwhile, Dipayan Chakraborty, the new face of BJP for the Silchar seat has already started to work. In all probability, his fight will be against Tamal Kanti Banik of Congress, one of the most popular face of Congress, The candidature of Dilip Kumar Paul as independent would definitely open the path for a 3-way fight between him on one side and Dipayan Chakraborty and Tamal Kanti Banik.

However, the sudden visit of Himanta Biswa Sarma in the arena of Silchar BJP is doubted to have arisen because of cementing the ties of the the party leaders of BJP, especially of Dilip Kumar Paul, Kanad Purkayastha and Kabindra Purkayastha. Meanwhile, in Lakhipur Assembly constituency, BJP gave the party nomination to District BJP President Kaushik Rai, thereby crushing all hopes and aspirations of Rajdeep Goala, who has recently shifted his allegiance to BJP. As per sources, Himanta Biswa Sarma is also supposed to meet Rajdeep Goala and sort out the differences that have cropped up due to denial of the party nomination.

Whatever may be the exact purpose, but it’s true that the sudden visit of Himanta Biswa Sharma in Silchar would bear lofty significance. Fresh vibe and renowned vigour might emanate among the party leaders in Silchar after the exit of Himanta. Only time can say with certainty the outcome of the Silchar Assembly constituency!
