All phone calls will be recorded from 4 April is a FAKE news, don’t share it: Assam Police

April 3: Sharing news without verifying the facts have become the norm of the day. Social media is replete with such fake news. Amidst 21 days lockdown due to outbreak of coronavirus, many such fake news are in circulation in social media. Though the state government and union government have issued strict warning for not circulating any fake news, yet such advisories seems to have no real impact.

On Friday, another news started to find its place in social media, especially in WhatsApp, where it was stated that from 4 April, 2020, the Minister of Communication & Digital Economy will record all phone calls. All social media and android phones will be connected to the ministry. This is nothing but a FAKE news. Further, no such minister or ministry exists in our country. So none should circulate this information.

In its Facebook page, Assam Police wrote, “Important Fake News Alert: There is a Fake WhatsApp – Janasanyog Government Notification being circulated in the name of a nonexistent Minister of Communication & Digital Economy stating that from 4.4.20 all Phone Calls will be recorded, all Social Media monitored and Android phones connected to the Ministry. Do not believe this message. It is fake. Do not forward or circulate it either.”
