All govt hoardings & posters to be brought down: CEO Assam
March 14: With the announcement of Lok Sabha poll schedule by the Election Commission of India (ECI), the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has also come into force. It is in this backdrop that the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Assam, Mukesh Sahu, has ordered for the removal of all government hoardings, advertisements, wall advertisements, wall writings and posters immediately.
It needs mention here that Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) moved the Election Commission demanding removal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photograph from government posters at public places, including petrol pumps, ahead of the Lok Sabha Polls, 2019. In a letter addressed to the Chief Electoral Officer of Assam, APCC requested to issue orders for the removal of existing Government Hoardings and Government Advertisements.
CEO Sahu said, “Already action has been taken as a part of the standard procedure. Removal of the hoardings and advertisements began in the state immediately after the announcement of the date of polls on Sunday.”
