Alarming! Barak Valley registers 131 positive cases on Monday

July 27: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Monday, the number of fresh cases again increased in the valley. A total of 131 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley. It needs mention here that on Sunday, Barak Valley registered 83 positive cases. The numbers increased by 48 on Monday with Cachar almost doubling the rate of infection.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Sunday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 94 positive cases
  • Karimganj: 22 positive cases
  • Hailakandi: 15 positive cases

With 94 new cases of COVID-19 positive on Monday, Cachar recorded a total of 1295 cases of coronavirus as of now. On Monday, as per the 1st slot of swab results and Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), 49 persons tested positive in Cachar district. However, this number increased after the results of the 2nd slot was published. As per the 2nd slot declared on Monday, 39 more persons were detected as coronavirus positive and another 6 as per Rapid test. With this, the total tally of COVID-19 positive cases detected on Monday has reached 94.

Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert said that there is a difference between the cases detected earlier and the present cases in the district. He said, “Earlier maximum positive cases were detected from the institutional quarantine facilities and most of them had travel history. But now as the quarantine guidelines have been considerable relaxed by the government, many positive cases are now found at the community level.” At present, most of the positive cases detected are from among persons who are at home quarantine.”

On Monday, 15 fresh COVID-19 positive cases have been reported from Hailakandi district, taking the total tally to 842. Health authorities here disclosed that of the 15 positive cases on Monday, nine cases have been detected under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). 100 swab results turned out to be negative. Altogether 88 cases have been found positive under RAT so far. The number of active cases in the district is currently 153.

Karimganj district recorded 22 COVID-19 positive cases on Monday. Till now, 401 patients were cured and discharged from the hospital. The district has recorded a total of 3 deaths till now.

Apart from the valley, a total of 1384 persons tested positive in Assam on Monday, thereby taking the state tally to 33,576. As of now, there are 8085 active cases in the state. Meanwhile, 1362 patients were also discharged from across the state during the day. With this, a total of 25,402 persons were discharged in Assam. Moreover, during the day, 7 persons died due to COVID-19 in Assam, thereby taking the death tally to 86.

India added a record 49,931 fresh cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) and 708 deaths between Sunday and Monday morning, pushing the tally to more than 14 lakh, according to the Union health ministry. It took just two days for the country’s tally to reach 14,35,453—there were 13,36,861 Covid-19 cases on July 25. The health ministry’s dashboard showed there are 485,114 active cases of Covid-19 and 32,771 people have succumbed to the viral disease till date. The recovery rate has now inched closer to 64%. The gap between active patients and recovered patients has crossed 4 lakh and currently stands at 4,32,454.
