Assam University Lights Up Young Minds with Night Sky Observation
রাতের আকাশ পর্যবেক্ষণের মাধ্যমে তরুণ মনকে আলোকিত করল আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়

ওয়ে টু বরাক, ১২ ফেব্রুয়ারি : মহাকাশ ও জ্যোতির্বিজ্ঞানের প্রতি নবপ্রজন্মের আগ্রহ জাগাতে এক ব্যতিক্রমী উদ্যোগ গ্রহণ করল আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের পদার্থবিদ্যা বিভাগ। বুধবার বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের আন্তঃবিশ্ববিদ্যালয় জ্যোতির্বিজ্ঞান গবেষণা ও উন্নয়ন কেন্দ্রের উদ্যোগে আয়োজিত হয় এক বিস্তৃত বক্তৃতামালা ও রাতের আকাশ পর্যবেক্ষণ কর্মসূচি। এতে আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, রামানুজ গুপ্ত ডিগ্রি কলেজ ও গুরুচরণ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রায় একশো গবেষক ও স্নাতক স্তরের ছাত্রছাত্রী অংশগ্রহণ করেন।

কেন্দ্রের সমন্বয়ক ও পদার্থবিদ্যা বিভাগের প্রধান অধ্যাপক হিমাদ্রি শেখর দাস স্বাগত বক্তব্যে কেন্দ্রের উদ্দেশ্য ও কর্মকাণ্ড সম্পর্কে আলোকপাত করেন। তিনি জানান, সারা বছর ধরে নিয়মিত শিক্ষাবিষয়ক আলোচনা সভা ও দূরবীক্ষণ যন্ত্রের সাহায্যে রাতের আকাশ পর্যবেক্ষণের মাধ্যমে মহাকাশ বিজ্ঞানকে সাধারণ শিক্ষার্থীদের কাছে আরও সহজ ও আকর্ষণীয় করে তোলাই এই উদ্যোগের লক্ষ্য।

প্রখ্যাত মহাকাশ বিজ্ঞানী অধ্যাপক অশোক কুমার সেন “নক্ষত্রমণ্ডলীর মধ্যবর্তী ধূমকেতু কী” শীর্ষক আলোচনায় দূরবর্তী নক্ষত্রব্যবস্থা থেকে আগত বরফময় জ্যোতিষ্কগুলির গতি ও বৈশিষ্ট্য বিশদভাবে ব্যাখ্যা করেন। স্কুল অব ফিজিক্যাল সায়েন্সের ডিন অধ্যাপিকা অত্রি দেশমুখ্য “মহাকর্ষীয় তরঙ্গের অনুসন্ধান” বিষয়ে বক্তব্য রেখে বিশ্বজুড়ে চলা গবেষণা, মহাকাশে সৃষ্ট তীব্র ঘটনাবলির ফলে সৃষ্ট সময়-স্থান কম্পন এবং তা শনাক্ত করার আধুনিক প্রযুক্তি সম্পর্কে বিস্তারিত তুলে ধরেন।

সন্ধ্যা নামতেই তাত্ত্বিক আলোচনা থেকে কর্মসূচির কেন্দ্রবিন্দু স্থানান্তরিত হয় সরাসরি আকাশ পর্যবেক্ষণে। পদার্থবিদ্যা ভবনের ছাদে আয়োজিত রাত্রিকালীন পর্বে গবেষক বিকি প্রসাদ, ভাস্করজ্যোতি বর্মন, সঞ্চালী নাথ মজুমদার, নিরোদা নামব্রাম, বোইনাও মেইকাম, সৌরভ চৌধুরী, আশিক জামান ও পৌলোমী পালিতের নেতৃত্বে ছাত্রছাত্রীরা শক্তিশালী দূরবীক্ষণ যন্ত্রের সাহায্যে বিভিন্ন গ্রহ ও নাক্ষত্রিক বস্তু পর্যবেক্ষণের সুযোগ পান। পুরো কর্মসূচি সঞ্চালনা করেন গবেষক সঞ্চালী নাথ মজুমদার।

Way2barak, February 12 : In a unique initiative aimed at fostering interest in space science and astronomy among the younger generation, the Department of Physics at Assam University organized a special lecture series and night sky observation programme on Wednesday. The event was conducted under the aegis of the university’s Inter-University Centre for Astronomy Research and Development. Nearly one hundred research scholars and undergraduate students from Assam University, Ramanuj College and Gurucharan University participated in the programme.

In his welcome address, Prof. Himadri Sekhar Das, Coordinator of the Centre and Head of the Department of Physics, highlighted the objectives and activities of the Centre. He stated that the initiative seeks to make space science more accessible and engaging for students through regular academic discussions and night sky observation sessions using telescopes throughout the year.

Renowned space scientist Prof. Ashok Kumar Sen delivered a lecture titled “What Are Interstellar Comets?”, in which he elaborated on the motion and characteristics of icy celestial bodies originating from distant star systems. Prof. Atri Deshmukh, Dean of the School of Physical Sciences, spoke on “The Search for Gravitational Waves,” outlining ongoing global research, the space-time ripples generated by intense cosmic events, and the modern technologies used to detect them.

As evening descended, the focus of the programme shifted from theoretical discussions to direct sky observation. During the night session held on the rooftop of the Physics building, students were given the opportunity to observe various planets and celestial objects through powerful telescopes under the guidance of research scholars Vicky Prasad, Bhaskarjyoti Barman, Sanchali Nath Mazumdar, Niroda Nambram, Boinao Meikam, Sourav Choudhury, Ashik Zaman and Poulomi Palit. The entire programme was anchored by research scholar Sanchali Nath Mazumdar.
