Alarming! 104 new COVID cases detected in Karimganj on Friday, 1 death at SMCH
The district has 39 active containment zones
May 7: Karimganj registered highest ever spike in a single day with detection of 104 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, pushing the coronavirus tally in the district to 4,957. Of the 104 active cases detected on Friday, 93 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test and 11 under RT-PCR.
The district has altogether 373 active COVID-19 cases while 34 patients have recuperated from the disease on Friday. 1,755 swab samples were collected on Friday. Altogether 2,37,245 samples have been tested so far. The district has 39 active containment zones.
In last 24 hours, 5 more Covid-19 infected patients died at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH), out of which, 4 are from Cachar district and 01 from Karimganj. This is the highest single day spike in death of Covid patients in the district this year. This was stated by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH on Friday evening.
Dr. Gupta stated, “Sekhar Chandra Das (71) from Banamali Road in Karimganj was admitted at SMCH. He was admitted on 1 May and breathed his last at 8 PM on 6 May, 2021.” As per protocol, the death details have been forwarded to the State Death Audit Board in Guwahati for final certification of Covid or non-Covid death.
