Admission to UG/IG courses of Assam University to be through CUET conducted by NTA

Application process for CUET for admission in UG courses to start from 2 April

April 1: The admission to Under Graduate (UG) and Integrated (IG) courses to be offered by Assam University for the session 2022-2023 will be through admission test to be conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) as per directives of UGC. Interested students shall have to fill up online application in the NTA Portal (https://cuet.samarth.ac.in) for admission test. This was informed in a notification issued by Dr PK Nath, Registrar of Assam University on 1 April, 2022.

Application in NTA Portal will open on 2 April and will be closed on 30 April, 2022. Students shall have to submit NTA score thereafter for admission to UG/IG Courses of the University. Interested students were advised to visit Assam University website (www.aus.ac.in) for details of the UG/IG Course matrix.

As per sources, admission to seven UG/IG courses offered by Assam University will be based on the NTA scores. However, the admission to TDC courses in the affiliated colleges of Assam University will continue as usual. Students seeking admission to TDC courses in affiliated colleges will not have to appear in CUET. Even admission in PG courses in Assam University will be outside the purview of Common University Entrance Test (CUET).

University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Jagadesh Kumar said on Tuesday that the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) will neither make the board exams irrelevant nor give a push to “coaching culture”. He said that the CUET will reduce the focus on scoring 100% marks. CUET will provide a level-playing field to students from all boards. Instances of students scoring 98% and not getting a college will be reduced, added the UGC Chairman.

The exam will be completely based on class 12 syllabus. The application process for the CUET for undergraduate courses in central universities will commence from April 2. According to NTA, the CUET will provide a single-window opportunity to students seeking admission in any central university across the country. The exam will be conducted in a Computer-Based Test (CBT) Mode.

A letter was also sent to vice-chancellors of all universities and college principals urging them to make use of CUET scores for admission, so that all institutions use a single platform instead of opting for multiple tests. UGC wants universities “register themselves on the portal and prominently display on their website that students will get admission on the basis of the CUET score”.
