A team of SMB led by Abhilash Baranwal sanitised hotels at Central Road after youth tests +ve
May 17: After a few days gap, Sunday night was once again a moment of worry for Cachar district. A 28-year-old youth who arrived in Cachar from Chennai on Saturday was detected to be COVID-19 positive. The person is now undergoing treatment at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). On his arrival in Silchar, the youth was quarantined in a hotel at Central Road, Silchar.
Once the patient was shifted to SMCH, Silchar Municipal Board (SMB) in a social media post stated, “As soon as the news arrived that a guest quarantined at Hotel Center Palace has tested positive for novel Coronavirus, SMB quickly mobilized its sanitisation team and sanitized the entire Hotel. Assisting Officer to the SMB, Abhilash Baranwal, IAS himself led the sanitisation efforts inside the hotel to personally ensure sanitisation efforts and management of PPE Protocols. Sourav Roy, Junior Engineer (MPI Branch) then led the team to sanitise other hotels. SMB in collaboration with District Administration is fully committed to protecting the city from global pandemic.”
Later on, District Magistrate, Keerthi Jalli sealed the area inside the following geographical boundaries:
- North: Hotel Divyam
- South: Swagat Hotel
- East: Central Road
- West: Arun Kumar Chandra Super market Complex Hotel Centre Palace
This would take the total tally of COVID-19 patients in Cachar district to 12, though out of 12, one person was already discharged. That means in Cachar, there are now a total of 11 active cases who are all under treatment at SMCH. Whereas, in Assam, the total number has increased to 97.
