A saga of successful multi-tasking, Dr. Rajdeep Roy balancing twin roles of surgeon and MP

April 21: Balancing the different shades of one’s profession in a world characterised by multi-tasking functions is probably one of the greatest challenges of the 21st century human beings. Infact, success depends on how we can balance the multifarious roles of our lives. Such a lively instance of perfect balance of one;s task was exhibited once again by Dr. Rajdeep Roy, an orthopedics surgeon and Member of Parliament (MP) from Silchar of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

With the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus followed by declaration of nationwide lockdown by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Dr. Rajdeep Roy as the Member of Parliament from Silchar Lok Sabha constituency became busy round the clock in monitoring COVID-19 preparedness in the district. Every morning he would set out overseeing the various facilities in the nook and corner of Cachar district, listening to people;s difficulties and attending a host of visitors maintaining the norms of social distancing. However, in between, he even used to attend serious patients who approached him.

Accompanying the Chief Minister, Health Minister was almost a regular affair in this phase of lockdown to the 3 districts of Barak Valley. He covered an extra mile even to collect donations from people of various walks of life for both the PM CARES Funs and Assam Arogya Nidhi, which was even acclaimed by the dynamic health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma in his twitter handle.

Though overburdened by the duties and responsibilities of his political career as a public man, he nevertheless ignored the sturgeon within himself. Whenever, the call came, he was there in the Operation Theatre with the surgery instruments in his hand. After the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, the doctors, nurses, paramedics have been working round the clock risking their own lives leaving aside families. Dr. Roy is no such exception.

On Tuesday, he all of a sudden had to put on the robes of a surgeon as a 45-year-old patient with fractured leg was in extreme pain. The need of the hour was of an expert orthopedics surgeon. The moment he got the call, he made himself available and operated the critical patient in a private nursing home under Atal Amrit Abhijyan Scheme. When he stepped out of the operation theatre, his smiling face was enough for the relatives of the patient to understand that the operation was successful. They were extremely elated at the fact that the surgery was done at a very minimal cost but with the best facilities available over here.

When our correspondent confronted him and asked how he manages his time for everything, Dr. Roy candidly replied, “24 hours is a lot of time in a day, if you really want to work.” He further went on to say, “I have a good team in operation theatre too, who eases my headache and always stays with me with a smiling face.” Successfully balancing the twin roles of a surgeon and an MP is perhaps the key to his success.
