A new Facebook started by a Bangladesh company! Facebook to file a lawsuit
Nov. 20: Facebook, the global social media giant is the most popular site in almost all the countries of the world. However, a somewhat similar name started by a firm in Bangladesh primarily to ‘deceive people’ has come to light recently. Facebook, now is preparing to file a lawsuit in a Bangladeshi court against the Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) owned domain called “facebook.com.bd”. The company also attempted to sell the domain at $6 million.
Christen Dubois, Facebook’s director and associate general counsel of IP litigation said, “We regularly scan for domain names and apps that infringe our trademarks to protect people from abuse. We sent notices to Whoisguard between October 2018 and February 2020, and despite their obligation to provide information about these infringing domain names, they declined to cooperate.”
Facebook-appointed Supreme Court of Bangladesh lawyer Barrister Moksadul Islam said, “We are working on filing the lawsuit immediately. We will ask for a ban on the operation of the website, as well as USD 50,000 in compensation.”
