A delegation of civil society meets DC Cachar on traffic problems

November 20: A delegation of the conscious citizens of the town met Laya Madduri, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar on Wednesday. They reiterated the fact that trucks and other heavy vehicles were entering Silchar town area even during the no-entry phase. To this, the Deputy Commissioner replied that the administration is trying its level best to control such occurrences. She assured the delegation of giving necessary instruction to the traffic branch.

The delegation further stressed upon the sepedy completion of the bypass road, which they believe would solve the issue of traffic congestion to a great extent. The Deputy Commissioner told the delegation that she has taken up this matter on a serious note with the PWD Minister during his recent visit to Silchar. She also informed that the PWD Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has directed the Chief Engineer of the concerned department to complete the road at the earliest.

DC Madduri said, “There should be more awareness drive on traffic rules and road safety measures.” To this, the delegation replied that the public and NGOs could well shoulder the responsibily of spreading awareness among the public but the truck owners and drivers should be given necessary instruction of road safety measures by the administration.

The Deputy Commissioner also said that very few trucks are released during restricted hours which would carry perishable goods and those carrying essential commodities. She further sought the cooperation of the civil society in this regard.

The delegation comprised of Kamal Chakraborty, Tuhina Sharma Biswas, Sabyasachee Rudra Gupta, Anoop Dutta and Nikita Banik.
