SMCH becomes 1st Medical College in Northeast to complete 2 lakh RT-PCR test

June 7: It’s another feather in the cap of SIlchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). On Monday, SMCH achieved the rare distinction of completing 2,00,000 RT-PCR tests. This is the first medical college in entire Northeast India to complete 2,00,000 RT-PCR Test.

Informing this, Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH said that the Covid-19 Laboratory, VRDL under the aegis of the Department of Microbiology, Silchar Medical College & Hospital has successfully conducted 2,00,281 RT-PCR tests till 5 PM on 7 June, out of which, 7,609 samples were detected as Covid-19 positive. This Covid-19 lab at SMCH started functioning in March 2020.
