Distribution of scooties to girl students of Karimganj district kick starts

June 6: Under Dr Banikanta Kakati Merit Award of Pragyan Bharati scheme, over Rs 144 crore was spent to provide scooters to girl students to facilitate their journey in the pursuit of knowledge. The Assam government was to distribute around 22,250 scooters (two-wheelers) to meritorious girl students who had passed higher secondary (HS) final exams in the first division under the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council. However, there were many beneficiaries who were yet to receive their scooties.

Out of 336 Scooters under Dr Banikanta Kakati Award (119 for 2018 and 217 for 2019) for Karimganj, all total 200 Scooters have reached the district. State government has also released the amount required for insurance & registration of all scooters. The distribution of these two hundred scooters started from 6 June, 2021. Informing this, Dr Mortuja Hussain, District Nodal Principal cum Principal of NC College, Badarpur stated that per day 15/20 scooters on completion of Insurance & Registration in the name of beneficiaries will be distributed with prior telephonic information to the concerned beneficiaries by the Hero dealer.

Dr Mortuja Hussain further informed, “After receiving phone call , beneficiaries are asked to attend NC College , Badarpur within the allotted time slot with HS Final original marksheet, certificate, Admit Card, Registration and one photo identity card (voter Id/Adhar/PAN/College I’d) strictly maintaining COVID-19 protocols for receiving the Award.

Meanwhile, Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu on Saturday posted a tweet sharing details of a website where girl students who have received scooters from the government can lodge their complaints if any about the scooters. Pegu tweeted, “For any complaint on distribution of Scooters to meritorious girl student write to scootercomplaint.dhe@gmail.com”
