Barak Valley registers 464 Covid +ve cases on Friday, 604 discharged & 3 deaths at SMCH

There are 5,696 active Covid cases in Barak Valley

June 4: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in the three districts of Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Friday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less. A total of 464 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Thursday, Barak Valley registered 511 positive cases. Further, during the day, 604 patients were cured and subsequently discharged in the three  districts of the valley. At present, there are 5,696 active Covid cases in Barak Valley.

Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Friday in Barak Valley:

  • Cachar: 316 positive cases   (It was 358 on Thursday)
  • Karimganj: 83 positive cases (It was 70 on Thursday)
  • Hailakandi: 65 positive cases (It was 83 on Thursday)

A total of 316 new cases of COVID-19 was reported on Thursday in Cachar.As per the updated data, a total of 8,852 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) were done, out of which, 261 persons were found positive, whereas 55 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. With this, the total number of Covid cases since 1 April, 2021 reached 11,948, whereas during this phase, 8,700 patients were discharged. Also, 386 patients were discharged after getting cured during the day. The number of active cases in Cachar has reached 3,135.

Death of Covid-19 patients continued unabated in Barak Valley. The last 24 hours (5 PM on 3 June to 5 PM on 4 June) witnessed demise of 03 Covid-19 positive patient at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH. Their detailed reports were forwarded to the State Death Audit Board. All the 3 deceased are from Cachar district.

The deceased were identified as Monoranjan Paul Purkayastha (85) from Public School Road, Silchar,  Dhirendra Deb (61) from Kumarpara in Cachar and KK Debdas Singha (76) from Shib Bari Road, Tarapur in Silchar.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed that till 5 PM on 4 June, there were 263 Covid-19 active patients at Silchar Medical College, out of which 88 patients were there in the ICU, whereas, 175 of them were in the Covid ward. Further, 28 patients were put under ventilator support and 132 of them were in oxygen support. In the last 24 hours, 36 Covid positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 38 of them were discharged. Further, 28 of them have opted for home isolation.

Hailakandi registered 65 new COVID-19 cases on Friday. Of the 65 positive cases detected on Friday, 61 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and 04 found positive in RT-PCR test. The district has altogether 1,372 active COVID-19 cases. During the day, 1,967 RAT tests and 325 RT-PCR tests were done. 118 patients were discharged during the day. With this, the district tally of Covid cases has now reached 6,609. As of now, 1,914 patients were discharged. It needs mention here that 83 persons were found positive in Hailakandi on Thursday.

As of now, in the 56,290 persons have received the 1st dose of the vaccine (irrespective of age), whereas, 16,737 have been administered the 2nd dose in Hailakandi district.

Karimganj registered 83 fresh COVID-19 cases on Friday. The district has currently 1,189 active COVID-19 cases, while 100 patients have been discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Friday. 4,176 swab samples were collected during the day. It needs mention here that 70 positive cases were detected in Karimganj on Thursday.

On Friday, out of 1,23,593 tests, 4,548 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 4,28,933. The positivity rate in the state is 3.68 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 421 positive cases during the day. Further, on Friday, 54 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19. With this, the death toll in the state reached 3,577. The recovery rate is 87.02 percent. With this, a total of 3,68,981 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged. At present, there are 50,765 active cases in the state.

Further, during the day, 54 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19. Out of the 54 deceased, 06 each are from Kamrup Metro, Cachar & Tinsukia; 05 from Karbi Anglong; 04 from Dibrugarh; 03 from Hojai; 02 each from Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Golaghat, Hojai, Kamrup rural, Lakhimpur, Morigaon & Sivasagar; 01 each from Baksa, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Goalpara & Nagaon. The death tally of the state now stands at 3,577.
