3 govt source gives 3 different daily Covid data for Cachar district on Friday!

May 29: The mismatch of daily Covid data continues in Cachar district since the last few days. Surprisingly, three government sources provided 3 different coronavirus data for Cachar district on Friday.

The twitter handle of Deputy Commissioner, Cachar at 6.57 PM on Friday (28 May) stated that 631 “Covid positive cases were reported today.” At 9.49 PM on the same day (28 May), the twitter handle of NHM Assam stated that 431 persons were detected as Covid positive. Again, the same night (at 11.50 PM), the District Health Department during its routine exercise of providing daily Covid data stated that 534 persons were found to be positive. So by midnight on Friday, we had 3 different Covid data of daily positive cases detected in Cachar – 631, 431 and 534 !

Usually, applying commonsense, it could be argued that the source providing the data at the end of the day ought to be the latest or the final one. Proceeding on this supposition, it is found that the final data provided by the district health department at 11.50 PM mentioned 534 persons were found positive on 28 May. But on the flip side, things become much more complex when we find that the twitter handle of DC Cachar almost around 5 hours ago (at 6.57 PM) on the same day (28 May) stated that 631 were found Covid positive.

Again, the data provided by DC Cachar revealed that there were a total of 3,073 active Covid cases on 28 May; whereas, the district health department in its daily bulletin mentioned that 3,037 persons were active during the day. If there is such wide disparity in the daily Covid data provided by three government sources, then the people becomes more and more confused.

At 6.57 PM on 28 May, DC Cachar in her twitter handle informed that a total of 8,046 Rapid Antigen Tests were conducted during the day; whereas, at 11.50 PM on 28 May, District Health Department informed that 7,355 Rapid Anitigen Tests were done. The usual explanation of updating the Covid data at late hours and providing the enhanced final data at night does not hold good in this case.

Another issues which baffles commonsense understanding of events is the number of deaths. Let us have a glimpse of the deaths of Covid patients of Cachar as put forward by the different government sources:

  • On 26 May, NHM Assam in its twitter handle stated 8 Covid deaths in Cachar. On the same day the twitter handle of DC Cachar as well as Dist Health Deptt (Cachar) stated no Covid deaths in Cachar & only 3 non-Covid deaths (Total till now 62 deaths: 07 Covid; 56 non-Covid deaths).
  • On 27 May, NHM Assam in its twitter handle stated 8 Covid deaths in Cachar. On the same day the twitter handle of DC Cachar as well as Dist Health Deptt (Cachar) stated 02 Covid deaths in Cachar & 3 non-Covid deaths (Total till now 68 deaths: 09 Covid; 59 non-Covid deaths).
  • On 28 May, NHM Assam in its twitter handle stated 7 Covid deaths in Cachar. On the same day the twitter handle of DC Cachar as well as Dist Health Deptt (Cachar) stated no Covid deaths in Cachar & only 3 non-Covid deaths (Total till now 71 deaths: 09 Covid; 62 non-Covid deaths).
