Rahul Gandhi tweets same vaccine poster that led to 25 arrests; says ‘arrest me too’

May 16: After atleast 25 people were arrested over posters criticising Prime minister Narendra Modi over Covid-19 vaccines’ import, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi shared the same poster poster on twitter and said “Arrest me too.” The Congress leader tweeted the same in Hindi as well and also changed his Twitter profile picture to that of the poster questioning the Prime Minister’s policy decision on Covid-19 vaccine distribution.

The controversial poster which Rahul Gandhi shared on his twitter handle reads “Modiji humare bachhon ki vaccine videsh kyu bhej diya? (Modiji, why did you send vaccine meant for our children abroad?). Many such posters were also seen in several places in Delhi.

The Congress party has also updated the profile picture of its official Twitter handle with the poster that led to this controversy. Meanwhile, the Aam Aami Party (AAP) also shared the poster on the party’s Twitter handle and captioned, “Have heard that sharing this poster makes the whole system tremble.” This very poster led to the arrest of around 25 persons in Delhi FIRs were registered under sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code and other relevant sections, including section 3 of the Prevention of Defacement of Property Act.

Former Union minister Jairam Ramesh yesterday night dared the Delhi Police to act against him for putting up a critical poster against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Putting up critical posters against PM is now a crime? Is India run by the Modi Penal Code now? Is the Delhi Police so jobless in the middle of a raging pandemic?? I am putting up posters on my compound wall tomorrow. Come get me. @DelhiPolice @AmitShah,” tweeted former Union minister Jairam Ramesh tagging Union Home Minister Amit Shah besides Delhi Police.

The backlash against the BJP-led central government comes as India struggles against a devastating second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic that has overwhelmed the healthcare infrastructure of the country. Millions all throughout the country are desperately trying to register online a vaccine slot for themselves, but in vain due to the shortage in the supply of vaccines.
