Death toll rises as 2 more Covid +ve patients dies at Silchar Medical College on Sunday

18 Covid +ve patients are in ventilator support at SMCH

May 9: During the 2nd wave of coronavirus, the death toll is increasing overall in the country. In Assam too, on an average 50 persons are are becoming victims of Covid-19 everyday. In Cachar district also, the death toll is continuing unabated. On Sunday, two more persons lost their lives due to Covid-19 at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). This was informed by Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH on Friday evening. The deceased were identified as:

  • Nitesh Ranjeb Choudhury (79) from North Tripura was admitted at SMCH in the evening on 8 May. He, however, breathed his last at 7.30 AM on 9 May, 2021.
  • Prova Das (60) from Don Bosco Lane, Ramnagar in Silchar was admitted at SMCH on 6 May. She lost her life in the battle against coronavirus at 5.30 PM on 9 May, 2021. She was known diabetic who was suffering from fever cough for 7 days and sob for 1 days. After investigation she was found to be a case of sepsis with AKI with pneumonia with Covid-19 positivity. But her condition did not improve and she deteriorated further and was ventilated and vasopressors. Finally she breathed her last on Sunday.

Dr. Bhaskar Gupta further informed that at present, 191 active patients of Covid-19 are admitted at SMCH, out of which, 156 are there in Covid ward and 35 of them are in ICU. Further, 18 of them in ICU are in ventilator support, whereas, 17 of them are in oxygen support. Again, another 61 patients in Covid ward are also kept in oxygen support. On Sunday, 15 new positive patients were admitted at SMCH and 14 patients were discharged.
