Barak Valley registers 314 Covid +ve cases on Wednesday; 2 deaths registered
Active cases 1218 in Barak Valley
May 5: The number of coronavirus positive cases are on the rise in Barak Valley along with the rest of Assam. On Wednesday, the number of fresh cases in the valley was somewhat less. A total of 314 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected from the three districts of Barak Valley during the day. It needs mention here that on Tuesday, Barak Valley registered 343 positive cases.
Here is the district-wise break up of fresh COVID-19 positive cases detected on Wednesday in Barak Valley:
- Cachar: 186 positive cases (It was also 248 on Tuesday)
- Karimganj: 77 positive cases (It was 62 on Tuesday)
- Hailakandi: 51 positive cases (It was 33 on Tuesday)
The District Health Department of Cachar informed that 186 more persons were detected as coronavirus positive on Wednesday. With this, the number of active cases in Cachar has now gone up to 764. During the day, 1,483 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were done, out of which, a total of 115 persons were found positive, whereas 71 more were detected positive in RT-PCR Test. This was informed by Dr. Ibrahim Ali Ahmed, District Surveillance Officer (DSO), IDSP, Cachar on Wednesday night. With this, the district tally of coronavirus cases has gone upto 1,960 in 2021. Again, 1,196 patients in this year were cured and discharged. It was informed that from now onwards, the District Health Department will provide the data only for the second wave of Covid-19.
Two more deaths were registered in Barak Valley, at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) on Wednesday. The two deceased are: Nayan Das (34) from Badarpur in Karimganj (at present a resident of Meherpur, Silchar) and Shyamal Das (55) from Karimganj.
Hailakandi registered highest ever spike in a single day with detection of 51 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, pushing the coronavirus tally in the district to 3,654. Of the 51 active cases detected on Wednesday, 50 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). Results of 405 samples are being awaited from Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
The district has altogether 191 active COVID-19 cases while 3,439 patients have recuperated from the disease. 21 patients are presently undergoing treatment at SK Roy Civil Hospital, 06 at Silchar Medical College and Hospital, 155 kept under home isolation, 07 in other districts and 02 absconding. 566 samples were taken on Wednesday. Altogether 1,82,638 samples have been tested so far with 1,77,632 found negative and 3,654 positive.
On Wednesday, out of 727 Covid tests done, 77 persons were found to be positive in Karimganj district. This is the highest single day spike in the number of coronavirus cases in Karimganj this year. Further, during the day, 43 patients were discharged after getting cured. At present, there are 263 active cases in the district. It needs mention here that on Tuesday, 62 persons were found positive in Karimganj.
On Wednesday, out of 52,074 tests, 4,826 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Assam. With this, the state tally of coronavirus has now gone upto 2,72,751. The positivity rate in the state is 9.27 percent. Kamrup (Metro) district registered 1,383 positive cases during the day. Further, on Wednesday, 55 more persons lost their lives in the state due to COVID-19, the highest single day death toll in Assam in 2021. With this, the death toll in the state reached 1,485. On Tuesday, 2,916 patients were discharged in Assam. With this, a total of 2,40,004 patients got cured and were subsequently discharged.
Further, during the day, 55 patients died in Assam due to COVID-19, the highest single day spike in the state this year. Out of the 55 deceased, 18 are from Kamrup Metro; 6 from Barpeta; 3 each from Goalpara, Nagaon & Sonitpur; 2 each from Bongaigaon, Cachar, Dhemaji, Kamrup Rural, Kokhrajhar, Sivasagar; 1 each from Charaideo, Darrang, Dibrugarh, Hojai, Jorhat, Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Nalbari and Tinsukia. The death tally of the state now stands at 1,485.
