Postal ballots did not play any decisive role in victory or defeat of candidates in Cachar

May 4: After the 2nd phase of Assam Assembly Elections, 2021, much doubt was raised by a certain section regarding manipulation of votes polled through postal ballots. However, after the declaration of the results on 2 May, it became evident that the postal ballots failed to play any decisive role in the victory and defeat of the candidates in all the seven constituencies of Cachar. The victory margin between the winners and the 1st runners up was far more than the total postal ballots cast. This was a common phenomenon in all the 7 constituencies of Cachar.

Here is the 7 constituency wise break up of the postal ballots polled in Cachar:

As per the data presented in the above table, it is evident that the winning margin was so vast, that the postal ballots failed to have any impact. In Udharbond, though Mihir Kanti Shome of BJP won by a narrow margin of 2,685 votes against Ajit Singh of INC, yet there too the postal ballots (1494) were quite less than the winning margin.
