19 candidates submitted nomination paper for 09-Silchar Assembly constituency

March 12: A total of 19 candidates submitted their nomination forms for contesting the elections in 09-Silchar Assembly constituency. March 12 was the last date for submitting the nominations. On the last date, 13 nomination papers were submitted. For the 2nd phase of polls, scrutiny of nomination will be done on 15 March & the last date of withdrawal of nomination 17 March. All the 15 assembly constituencies in the three districts of Barak Valley will go for the polls in the 2nd phase on 1 April, 2021. The voting will take place from 7 am to 6 pm.

Silchar Assembly constituency seems to move with a triangular contest. Dipayan Chakraborty was given the ticket by BJP to contest for the prestigious Silchar seat. Sitting MLA Dilip Kumar Paul failed to have his last smile. However, being annoyed, Dilip Kumar Paul, the twice elected MLA from Silchar gave up his primary membership of BJP and preferred to take part in the election from Silchar as an independent candidate. Meanwhile, former Municipal Chairperson, Tamal Kanti Banik has been selected as the Congress candidate from Silchar Assembly Constituency. That means the fight for the Silchar seat will be a triangular one among Dipayan Chakraborty of BJP, Tamal Kanti Banik of Congress and Independent candidate Dilip Kumar Paul.
