Protest demonstration held in Karimganj in demand of resumption of local trains

Jan. 12: A protest demonstration was organised at Karimganj Railway Station on Tuesday by ‘Silchar Lumding Broad Gauge Rupayan Sangram Samity.’ Their prime demand was immediate resumption of local passenger train service in Barak Valley. The other demands included decrease in passenger fare and more stoppages.

With the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic in March 2020, local train services were also cancelled along with all other trains. However, though at present local trains were already started in many parts of India including the neighbouring state of Tripura, but in Barak Valley no such step was taken by the Railways. They also demanded to cancel all special trains and resume normal train services.
