Distribution Head of Republic TV arrested in TRP scam case, remanded till 13 Nov

Nov. 11: Ghanshyam Singh, distribution head of Republic TV was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the alleged TRP (Television Rating Points) rigging scam. He is the 12th accused to be taken in by the Mumbai Police in connection with the case of alleged TRP manipulation by some news channels.

Singh, who is also assistant vice president of the Republic Media Network was produced before a magistrate who remanded him in police custody till 13 November. The Mumbai police case is that some channels like Republic had been paying to illegally boost their TRP’s and thus earned profits illegally by getting higher rates for advertisements they earned due to high TRP’s.

The fake TRP scam came to light last month when ratings agency Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) filed a complaint through Hansa Research Group, alleging that certain television channels were rigging TRP numbers.
