Along with Jogigopa, a Multimodal Logistics Park will also be set up in Barak: CM Sonowal

Oct. 20: “Along with Jogighopa on the Brahmaputra bank, a Multimodal Logistics Park will also be set up on the banks of Barak river, realising our commitment to equally develop the two great river valleys of Assam.” This was said by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at the e-foundation stone laying ceremony of India’s first Multi Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) at Jogighopa, Bongaigaon district. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation stone of MMLP through an online video conference.

The Rs 693.97 crore MMLP in Jogigopa will provide direct air, road, rail and waterways connectivity to the people. The virtual event was also attended by Union minister Nitin Gadkari, Union Ministers of state Dr Jitendra Singh, Gen (Retd) VK Singh and Rameshwar Teli; ministers from Assam, MPs, MLAs and senior officers from the Centre and the state.

Nitin Gadkari said, “Being built with an investment of Rs. 693.97 crore, the multi modal logistics park will become a milestone in the development of North East. The project will reduce logistic cost and bring global opportunities to the region. It is being developed under Bharatmala Pariyojana.” He further said that his ministry envisages developing 35 multi-modal logistic parks (MMLPs) in the country, of which work on preparing DPR and feasibility report is underway.

The MMLP will have all the facilities like, warehouse, railway siding, cold storage, custom clearance house, yard facility, workshops, petrol pumps, truck parking, administrative building, boarding lodging, eating joints and water treatment plant.
