Leo Centurion & Prayas collects 180 abandoned idols, immerses them in Barak

Oct. 12: Cleanliness and order are not matters of instinct; they are matters of education and like most great things, we must cultivate a taste for them. With this motive in view, Leo Club of Silchar Centurion (Youth wing of Lions Club of Silchar Centurion) in association with Prayas NGO on Sunday took the initiative to collect the abandoned idols of various Gods & Goddesses from different parts of Silchar town, such as, Meherpur, Sashan Road, Chengkoorie Road and many other places near the highway and immersed those idols properly with dignity in River Barak at Sadarghat area.

A total of 180 idols of different shapes and sizes were collected throughout the day. Leo Biswarupa Purkayastha said, “It was a small effort on our part to clean the city and also to do proper immersion of the abandoned idols.  The project was funded by Lion Partho Aditya- President of Lions Club of Silchar Centurion. Present during the event were 8 Leo members and 7 members of Prayas.”

With this initiative, along with cleaning the environment, the Club tried to convey a message to the society in order to create awareness – “A request to everyone out there, If you can’t carry out immersion, then just like those 180 idols, please do not throw idols near the roadside once the puja is done. Instead try to keep the idols in a safe place or atleast near Sadarghat to maintain the dignity and respect of the idols.”
