From 85 in April, footfall increases to 15,089 passengers in August at Silchar Airport

Sept. 25: Despite the pandemic, Silchar Airport at Kumbhirgram is performing well when it comes to passenger footfall. In a social media post, the Airport authorities wrote, “Despite the pandemic, #AAI’s Silchar Airport continued to serve its passengers, enabling them to connect with their families. Our teams are working working #RoundTheClock to ensure a steady increase from just 85 passengers in April’ 20 to over 15 K in Aug’ 20. #IndiaFliesHigh.”

August 2020 witnessed 15,089 passenger footfall. In comparision to April, the numbers increased manifold. With additional flights in this festival season & in upcoming winter schedule, “We look to grow further. We strive to provide the best possible facilities to our esteemed passengers & working on capacity enhancement for smooth flow of increased traffic,” wrote the authority at Silchar airport.

Further, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has undertaken construction of 02 additional bays, 01 for B738/A320 & other 01 for ATR/Q400 type aircrafts at a cost of Rs.15 crore at Silchar Airport. Once completed, the two additional bays will provide improved aircraft parking space. The work is expected to be completed within the next 18 months. It needs mention here that at present, Silchar Airport has 03+01 Apron bays. 02 bays for B738/A320, 01 bay for ATR/Q400 & 01 bay (dependent) for ATR/Q400.
