74th Independence Day was celebrated in Cachar district on Saturday

August 16: In sync with rest of the country, the 74th Independence Day was celebrated in Cachar district on Saturday. Unfurling the national flag at the District Sports Association playground here, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, Keerthi Jalli conveyed her best wishes to all on the momentous occasion and paid her homage to Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi and the martyrs of the freedom struggle. She complimented the brave soldiers who are safeguarding the territorial integrity of the country by guarding the frontiers day in and day out.

Citing the example of brave and valiant Kanaklata, Kushal Konwar and other freedom fighters, Jalli said everyone should work unitedly for the betterment of society inspired by the supreme sacrifices of the freedom fighters for the sovereignty, integrity, unity and progress of the country and the ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikash’ ideology of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Referring to the slew of steps taken by the Chief Minister and the Minister of Health in the state in the wake of the global outbreak of coronavirus, Jalli urged everyone to rise in unison to defeat the disease.

The Deputy Commissioner said that under the Cachar District Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, 135 classrooms have been constructed, 21 classrooms newly renovated, drinking water connections to 62 schools, 19 girls’ toilets and residential schools built from 2016-17 to 2019-20, besides recruitment of 2,339 teachers. 4840970 textbooks and school uniforms and 53,568 laptops to meritorious students have been distributed free of cost, besides fees concession to 189434 BPL students in the state.

Jalli said the state has produced 3.3 lakh metric tons of fish. 101,309 persons in the state benefited from cashless system under the Atal Amrit Abhiyan. Jalli said that construction work has been completed in 12 AYUSH OPD centers, 6 AYUSH branches in district hospitals and six numbers of AYUSH hospitals in the state, she said.

Jalli said that under the Antodaya Anna Yojana, NFSA and Priority Household schemes coupled with the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, people are getting rice and other items free of cost in addition to 3492759 LPG connections provided to women under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. She highlighted the major achievements of PHED, Public Works Department (Roads and Buildings), Social Welfare, Panchayat and Rural Development department, DDMA, Power department, Welfare of Minorities, Excise department, Labour department and Information and Public Relations department. Jalli said the judicial court building has come up at a cost of Rs.1,751.54 lakh. The DSA will be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 550 lakh at Lakhipur, an indoor stadium involving Rs 10 crore, mini secretariat at an estimated cost of Rs 413.63 crore, Sadbhav Mandap under MSDP, etc.

Jalli said 143928 km roads have been completed in the last four years together with 79 concrete bridges.
On the Agriculture front, Jalli said 63392 Soil Health Cards, 57769 Kishan Credit Cards, 22 ongoing schemes under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana, 48403 works under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, 74425 works under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Samman Nidhi Yojana, Green Revolution, etc have been carried out. A total of 2990391 children and 594050 pregnant women have benefited in the state through various programmes like Supplementary Nutrition Program, Prime Minister’s Matri Bandana Yojana, Poshan Abhiyan, Beti Bachao Beti Padao, etc. Jalli pointed out that employment opportunities have been provided to 8.19 lakh households in the current financial year under MGNREGA with completion of 99.90 per cent geo-tagging.

MP Dr.Rajdeep Roy, State Assembly Deputy Speaker Aminul Islam Laskar, MLAs Dilip Kumar Paul and Kishor Nath were present as special guests. Cachar DEF, Home Guard personnel and 6th Assam Police Band took part in the march past. DIG (Southern Range) Dilip Kumar Dey, Superintendent of Police, Bhanwar Lal Meena and senior officials of civil and police administrations attended the function.

Doctors and health workers of Silchar Medical College and Hospital vis-a-vis Dr. Devdatta Dhar Chanda, Dr. Amit Kalwar, health workers Suruchi Devi, Aparna Dev, Baharul Islam and Manas Das were accorded felicitation on the occasion. Joint Director of Health Services, Dr. SJ Das received the felicitation on behalf of the health functionaries who are engaged in the fight against coronavirus. The district administration also accorded felicitation to forest personnel Dibya Jyoti Deuri, Uttam Kumar Das, Hemojit Singha, Rajiv Barman and Saddam Ali Ahmed for their exemplary work in rescuing exotic wildlife species on July 23 last.
