Biggest spike of 277 +ve cases including 63 school teachers detected in Cachar on Thursday

4 +ve persons died at SMCH in last 24 hours

August 13: On Thursday, Cachar registered it’s biggest single-day jump of 277 positive cases till 6.30 PM. More than 5000 Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) were conducted throughout Cachar on Thursday, out of which, 265 tested positive. Another 12 persons were detected as COVID-19 positive during the day as per RT-PCR Test. Further, test reports of around 3000 persons are yet to come and so the positive cases may in all probability rise further in the night. This was stated by Suman Choudhury, District Media Expert on Thursday evening.

The District Media Expert further informed that Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) was done among the school teachers. A total of 63 school teachers tested coronavirus positive during the day. Apart from this RAT was conducted in various market places and crowded areas in Cachar. Many positive patients detected during the day have opted for home isolation, whereas symptomatic persons were admitted in the hospitals.

Rapid Test was done among 1647 school teachers of Cachar, out of which, 63 tested positive. Here is the break up:

  • Bikrampur: 4 found positive out of 200 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT)
  • Sonai: 2 found positive out of 85 RAT
  • Dholai: 3 found positive out of 263 RAT
  • Harinagar: 7 found positive out of 224 RAT
  • Udharbond: 10 found positive out of 130 RAT
  • Lakhipur: 01 found positive out of 150 RAT
  • Borkhola: 18 found positive out of 293 RAT
  • UPHC: 18 found positive out of 302 RAT

Mr. Choudhury also said that many such patients were found positive who came for testing inspite of having severe symptoms since last few days. Such patients were obviously detected positive and were rushed to Silchar Medical College & Hospital. He said, “This type of cases are very risky. Please don’t wait at your home if you have any such symptoms. Such type of delay might invite severe complexities and may be fatal. So please come for doing tests. You should not fear getting tested. Rather you should be scared if after having symptoms you do not come forward and get tested.”

Further, 4 persons who were COVID-19 positive died at SMCH on Wednesday. As per sources, their reports were sent to State Death Audit Board for confirmation. The four persons who passed away are Abdul Ahad Laskar (18) from Hailakandi. He was admitted at SMCH at 1.42 PM on Wednesday with acute liver failure. He, however, collapsed within an hour on the same day. The 3 others who lost their lives are Dhaneshwar Singha (78) from Patharkandi in Karimganj district, Biplob Kumar Karmakar (67) from Badarpur and Biswajit Kar (53) from Lakhipur in Cachar.

In the 1st slot of RT-PCR Test, 08 persons were detected as coronavirus positive. 61-year-old male from Tarapur, Shib Bari Road, 53 years old female from Bhairabnagar were found positive. Their source of infection was not mentioned in SRF. Two persons with travel history were also detected positive during the day. They are 21-year-old male from Purba Dayapur (Air passenger from Bangalore) and 26 years old female from Jaipur (Air passenger from Kolkata). Further, a 45 years old male was tested positive vide ATSP. A 25-year-old pregnany woman in near labour was also detected positive during the day. She is from Berenga Pt-3 but at present is admitted at SMCH. The last one in the 1st slot is a jawan from 147 BN CRPF, Kashipur.

In the 2nd slot of RT-PCR, 4 persons from Cachar district were detected positive on Thursday. Out of them, three persons were detected positive when tests were conducted under Assam Targeted Surveillance Programme (ATSP). They are a 55 years old male from Salchapra Part-1, 34 years old male from Berenga Part-2 and 35 years old female from Berenga Part-2. Apart from them, a 62-year-old female with Influenza Like Illness symptoms was found positive on Thursday from Malugram. Except this lady, the other 3 are asymptomatic.
